NADA strengthens anti-doping at Challenge Roth 2025: age-group testing will also be carried out

The next July 6, 2025, the legendary DATEV Challenge Roth will take a further step in its commitment to fair play.
La German National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) will intensify its control and prevention strategy in collaboration with TEAMCHALLENGE, Event organizers.
Tests also for age groups
For the first time, tests will be implemented systematically not only in the elite, but also in the age groupsThis decision places Roth as one of the few international events that extends anti-doping controls beyond professional athletes.
"Roth is a beacon in the fight against doping. The fact that age groups are also being monitored sends a powerful message: anyone can be tested," he explained. Dr. Lars Mortsiefer, a member of NADA's steering committee, on the official podcast Rothcast.
Dried Blood Spot (DBS): more agile and discreet technology
One of the great novelties will be the use of DBS (Dried Blood Spot) test, a method that allows blood samples to be obtained through a small prick in the arm.
This system, in addition to being less invasive and faster, facilitates logistical analysis during events with thousands of participants.
Prevention and education: keys to the program
From the Thursday before the test, NADA will be present at the Triathlon Expo with an information booth where athletes, coaches, and the media can answer questions about regulations, risks, and supplements.
Also offered is a educational podcast, available on Spotify and other platforms, with tips on how to avoid contamination and which products are prohibited.
On the official website of the event, under the motto Stay clean, you can now consult a complete guide of useful resources and links such as the Cologne List, NADAmed or guidelines of the WADA.
Infrastructure, privacy and transparency
Challenge Roth will have two dedicated testing areas: one for traditional blood and urine tests and another exclusively for the new DBS tests. Both will be designed to respect the athletes' privacy and dignity.
Furthermore, 10 to 15 volunteers Trained personnel will assist with logistics, and visibility and access will be guaranteed for the NADA team in key arrival areas.
A lasting alliance since 2002
The commitment between NADA and Challenge Roth is not new. For more than 20 years, they have collaborated voluntarily—without federal mandates—to promote clean triathlon.
"We firmly believe in the values of fair sport. Our partnership with NADA reinforces that commitment," he said. Felix Walchshöfer, race director of Challenge Roth.
