The International Testing Agency (ITA), responsible for World Triathlon's independent anti-doping program, has notified un adverse analytical finding to the Portuguese triathlete Pedro Afonso Pinto Gaspar.
As confirmed by the ITA, the sample collected during an in-competition test on June 29th, 2025 tested positive for mesterolone, an anabolic androgenic steroid banned at all times by the WADA Prohibited List 2025.
Prohibited substance
Mesterolone is classified under the section S1.1 Anabolic Androgenic Steroids (AAS). It is an unspecified substance that increases testosterone levels and enhances male sexual characteristics.
Process in progress
The athlete has been informed and has the right to request the analysis of sample B. If the finding is confirmed, it will be considered a anti-doping rule violationIf you do not request the opening of the sample, the violation will also be established.
Meanwhile, in accordance with the World Anti-Doping Code and Article 7.4.1 of the World Triathlon Anti-Doping Rules, a mandatory provisional suspension on the athlete. Gaspar has the option to appeal this measure and request its lifting.
Case management
The ITA, under its delegation of World Triathlon's anti-doping program, will lead the entire process. Until the procedure is concluded, no further official statements will be issued.
