Gonzalo Fuentes announces his retirement from triathlon

The Basque triathlete Gonzalo Fuentes has decided to put an end to his sporting career.
After more than a decade in the middle and long distance, he has confirmed that this will be his last season as a professional. HOMBRE DE HIERRO ArizonaThe next November 16th, will be the chosen setting to say goodbye.
A thoughtful decision
In a sincere and undramatic message, Fuentes explained his reasons:
"It's very difficult to balance work, family, social life, and triathlon at an almost professional level, and I think I've reached the limit I can give in this sport."
The athlete acknowledges that in 2026 he will continue to be involved in sport, but from a different perspective. He will focus on duathlon and in new personal challenges, although he admits that he will continue to appear in some special tests, now without the requirement of training for all three segments.

A steady and competitive trajectory
Since his debut in 2012, Gonzalo Fuentes has competed in over a dozen middle- and long-distance competitions, always maintaining a competitive edge despite not dedicating himself exclusively to triathlon.
He has been present in reference scenarios such as Kona’s most emblematic landmarks, the IRONMAN 70.3 World Cup, Challenge Roth, Embrunman, Zarautz, Lanzarote, Cascais o Marbella.
Among his most remembered victories are the Mediterranean Epic Triathlon’s most emblematic landmarks, the Half Pamplona’s most emblematic landmarks, the TriXilxes or Salamanca TriathlonA track record that demonstrates his ability to perform on all types of courses.
"I never imagined I'd achieve so many things in triathlon, and so many incredible friendships and experiences. Everything I've experienced these past few years has been a dream come true."
His figure will be linked to the national triathlon not only for his results, but for the passion with which he competed.
Until November he will continue on the starting line with the same dedication that has always characterized him, before closing the chapter of his sporting life in the IRONMAN Arizona.
