The Ribadeo Half Triathlon returns with triathletes from 13 provinces and four countries

The Ribadeo Half Triathlon 2026 will take place this Saturday, September 5th, with triathletes from 13 Spanish provinces and four countries, in addition to deciding the Galician titles of Middle Distance and Aquabike.

This will be the second edition of the event and comes five years after its debut in 2021. Ribadeo will bring together the Half, Short and Aquabike modalities on the same day, all of them without drafting.

The Middle Distance event will also count towards the FETRI National Middle and Long Distance Triathlon Ranking , while the competition will also be the third scoring event of the Astur-Galician Triathlon Championship.

2 km swimming, 81 km cycling and 19 km walking

The Half race will begin at Playa de los Bloques , inside the Ribadeo estuary. Triathletes will complete two laps of a 1.000-meter swimming course, for a total distance of 2 kilometers.

The location within the estuary protects the area from the more changeable conditions found in the Cantabrian Sea. The first transition will be located next to the beach itself.

The cycling stage will cover 81 kilometers, divided into two laps . The route begins by passing through Ribadeo before continuing along local roads towards the area around Trabada.

The running race will cover 19 kilometers in three laps . The circuit starts in the old town of Ribadeo, continues along the estuary, and reaches the area around the Isla Pancha Lighthouse before returning to Plaza de España.

The courses and their main features can be found in more detail in our guide to the Ribadeo Half Triathlon 2026 routes.

Galician Middle Distance and Aquabike Championships

The Galician Middle Distance and Aquabike Championships will also be held on Saturday . The latter combines the swimming and cycling segments of the Half Marathon and finishes after the cycling portion is completed.

TN already revealed in August the key aspects of the Galician championships that will be decided in Ribadeo and their place within the regional and national calendar.

Ribadeo, another opportunity to add points in the FETRI Ranking

The race also comes at the end of the 2026 FETRI National Ranking for Medium and Long Distance , which this season has 21 scoring races spread across 19 events.

After Ribadeo, the calendar will continue in September with events such as the Santander City Triathlon and the Madrid Half Triathlon before tackling the final stretch in October.

María Vilas and Facundo Medard won in 2021

The first edition of the Ribadeo Half Triathlon was held in 2021. The victories went to María Vilas , then a member of the Ondarreta Alcorcón Triathlon Club, and Facundo Ismael Medard , from the Arteixo Triathlon Club.

Five years later, Ribadeo revives the event with the presence of triathletes from 13 provinces and four countries and with points at stake for both the FETRI National Ranking and the Astur-Galician Championship.
