Hamburg to host 2027 Triathlon World Championship Finals

Hamburg will host the 2027 Triathlon World Championship Finals, where the Elite, Paratriathlon, and Age Group champions will be crowned.

World Triathlon has confirmed that Hamburg (Germany) will be the headquarters of the 2027 Triathlon World Championship Finals, to be held in 2027 September.

The event will crown the world champions in the categories Elite, U23, Junior, Paratriathlon and Age Groups, both in sprint and standard distance, in addition to the tests of mixed relay for different divisions.

For five days, the German city will become the world epicenter of triathlon with the traditional Parade of Nations as a starting point and an environment that will bring together More than 4.500 athletes worldwide.

Hamburg thus joins the list of historic venues for the world finals, along with Wollongong, Pontevedra, Abu Dhabi, Edmonton, Lausanne and Gold Coast, consolidating itself as one of the most emblematic capitals of international triathlon.

The city has a long history in this sport. In 2002 organized the first major German triathlon, in 2007 It hosted the first World Cup held in the country with more than 600.000 viewers, And in 2013 housed the Mixed Relay World Championship, which ended with a local victory.

It was also the scene of the Sprint and Relay World Championships 2023, confirming its capacity to host top-level events.

The President of World Triathlon, Antonio Arimany, highlighted the importance of this election:

"Hamburg is one of our most reliable partners and a city beloved by athletes and fans. It will be an honor to host the 2027 Finals there."

For its part, Martin Engelhardt, President of the German Triathlon Federation (DTU), stressed that this designation is “a recognition of years of work and the deep tradition of triathlon in Germany.”

Also the city's Sports Senator, Andy Grote, celebrated the news by stating that “triathlon is part of Hamburg's DNA” and that the event will serve as a “test for a future Olympic and Paralympic bid.”

With this designation, Hamburg will celebrate 25 years of relationship with international triathlon, reinforcing its role as one of the most beloved and emblematic venues on the world circuit.
