The Basque capital adds a new chapter to its triathlon legacy with the arrival of HOMBRE DE HIERRO 70.3 Vitoria-Gasteiz, which will celebrate its first edition on July 12, 2026, coinciding with the already traditional IRONMAN full-distance.

It will be the first time in Spain that a IRONMAN Festival with medium and long distance events in a single weekend, which promises to make Vitoria the epicenter of national and international triathlon.

A long-awaited return

The middle distance has always played a key role in the history of the Álava triathlon. With this new event, the organizers seek to recapture the spirit of the competitions that shaped an entire generation of athletes for two decades in the city.

According to Agustí Pérez Capdevila, Director of the Southern Europe Region at IRONMAN: "Vitoria-Gasteiz doesn't organize a triathlon, it lives it. Here, the triathlon is part of the city's identity. With this new race, we're returning to our roots and opening a new chapter for thousands of athletes.".

A route designed to fly

The IRONMAN 70.3 Vitoria-Gasteiz route will feature fast and spectacular segments:

  • Swimming: 1 lap on Lake Ulibarri-Gamboa, in Landa Provincial Park.
  • Cycling: 90 km in a single loop through villages in Álava and a section of the Camino de Santiago.
  • Race on foot: a flat half marathon through the city center, with the finish line at Plaza de España.
