The Australian Cameron Wurf, a cycling legend turned triathlete, closed his intense 2025 season with a great result in the HOMBRE DE HIERRO Chattanooga, where he achieved the coveted slot for the 2026 Kona World Championship.

At 42, the former professional cyclist once again demonstrated that he still has the energy in his legs and the character to compete in any long-distance race.

The risky bet after Nice

While others, like Sam long, chose to rest after the World Cup in Nice, throw decided to take on the challenge of competing just two weeks later. And he did so with flying colors: in his fourth Ironman of the year, once again made a difference in the cycling segment together with rasmus svenningsson, being the only ones capable of going under four hours on the bike.

A duel to the finish line

The Australian started the race in the lead alongside the Swede, and the two ended up taking the top two positions. Svenningsson took the victory with authority, but Wurf resisted the pressure of rivals like Trevor foley o Jesper Svensson, thus securing the second ticket to Hawaii.

“In IRONMAN, everything is earned, nothing is given away,” Wurf himself acknowledged on social media, thanking his rivals for their efforts and the atmosphere in Chattanooga.

Review of a demanding season

With four full races under his belt, plus his participation in the World Cup in Nice, Wurf is closing out a grueling year.

In 2024, he had already demonstrated his resilience, completing the New York Marathon in 2:36 a week later after a seventh place in Kona.

Now he faces a well-deserved rest, which in his case means changing disciplines: “My off-season consists of doing other sports: golf, surfing, skiing… I'm allergic to being still,” wrote between laughs.

Kona 2026 Goal

Despite his age, Wurf remains confident in his chances in Hawaii. He already has three top-10 finishes in Kona, and with the 2026 edition marking the return of the combined men's and women's format, the Australian wants to make his mark again at the long-distance event.
