IRONMAN Vitoria-Gasteiz 2025: Nearly 2.000 triathletes at the major national long-distance event
The capital of Alava already has everything ready to receive almost 2.000 triathletes in one of the most emblematic tests of the calendar national long distance: the HOMBRE DE HIERRO Vitoria-Gasteiz, who will live his sixth edition the next Sunday July 13th.
An IRONMAN with an international accent and a greater female presence
This year, the test shows a notable growth in female participation, reaching 15% compared to 11% last year.
Furthermore, 81 nationalities will be represented at the exit, with a 67% of international athletes, with the United Kingdom, France, Belgium and the Netherlands being the most prominent countries. It will also have more than 330 TriClubs or with a 51% of beginners in the Ironman distance.
The competition is also valid for the Basque Country and Álava Long Distance Triathlon Championship, adding appeal to local athletes.
Big names in the women's professional category
A total of 15 professional triathletes will compete for the podium, among them figures such as:
- Marjolaine pierre (FRA), fourth in the last IRONMAN World Championship.
- Anne Haug (GER), 2019 IRONMAN World Champion and Olympic medalist.
- Julie Derron (SUI), Olympic silver medalist in Paris 2024.

A week full of activities
Previous events include:
- Miércoles 9: The Walker dresses up as an IRONMAN (17pm).
- Thursday 10: Official press conference at the Villa Suso Palace (11am).
- Friday 11: presentation of elite athletes (17pm).
A tour that will captivate you: nature, history and a unique atmosphere
The test will begin in the Ullibarri-Gamboa reservoir, recognized by the athletes themselves as the best swimming circuit in Europe.
Afterwards, the 180 km bike ride will take the triathletes through the Alava plain, bordering the Sierra de Elguea and crossing charming villages.
The foot race will cover the historical Center from Vitoria-Gasteiz in four laps, with a spectacular finish in the Plaza España, where the Vitorian public turns out in force with each finisher.
