Spanish triathlon will experience a special moment this Sunday, September 14, in the Czech Republic.

Kevin Tarek Viñuela, at 30 years old, will debut in a World Triathlon Series (WTCS) after more than a decade of effort, perseverance and results in the international elite of cross duathlon, aquathlon and continental cups.

A dream forged over 11 years

It was 2014 when Kevin made his debut at the Cross Duathlon World Championships in Zittau, where he finished fourth.

Since then, he hasn't stopped fighting. His career included the 2015 European Cup in Quarteira (40th place) and the 2017 World Cup in Madrid (32nd).

The reward came in 2024 with his best international season: 5th in the European Cup in Vigo and a Bronze at the Karlovy Vary World Cup, precisely on the same stage where he will now make his debut in the top flight.

Water and forest specialist

Swimming and cross-country triathlon have always been his strong suit. A world and European champion in the aquathlon, Kevin arrives confident that he can be among the front group in the water.

Their goal will be to grab the lead in the opening meters and endure the demanding Czech cycling circuit, featuring the iconic 21% slope known as “Heartbreak Hill.”

A solo debut

In Karlovy Vary it will be the the only Spanish representative in the men's elite, while other teammates rest before the final stretch of the calendar.

Viñuela is no stranger to the course: he's competed on it several times, knows every corner, and knows where to save energy to have a chance at the final 10K.

World-class rivals

The big favorite will be the Australian matt hauser, solid leader of the ranking with three wins in three races.

There will also be names like Hayden Wilde, cooler than on the French Riviera, and the Brazilian Miguel Hidalgo, currently number 3 in the world.

They add up Dorian Coninx, Henry Graff, Csongor Lehmann or the Italian Alessio Crociani, among others.

The female army

In the morning the women's event will be held, where Spain will have Anna Godoy, Miriam Casillas y Sara GuerreroIt will be an open race due to the absence of Cassandre Beaugrand, although the list includes stars such as Beth Potter, Emma lombi or the current champion in Karlovy Vary, Maya Kingma.
