Manoel Messias breaks the IRONMAN marathon record
The Brazilian triathlete makes his Ironman debut with a spectacular 2:26:50 in the IRONMAN Brazil marathon.
Last weekend in HOMBRE DE HIERRO Brazil, the Brazilian triathlete Manoel Messias surprised the world with an unprecedented performance.
In his first participation in the Full distance, he achieved the fastest marathon ever recorded in an IRONMAN event: 2h26: 50 after completing the 3.8 km swim and the 180 km bike ride.
This debut took him to second place in the general classification, smashing the previous record, surpassing the previous mark by more than five minutes. Patrick Lange (2h32) in Israel 2022.

Route validation
One of the first questions that arose after the time was known was the accuracy of the race route.
However, thanks to the GPS of several athletes, it was confirmed that the course complied with the 42,2 km regulation.
With an average pace of 3:28 min/km, Messiah has shown that triathletes from short distance backgrounds can redefine the limits of performance in long distance.
Generational change in long distance
Messias, who currently ranks 14th in the Olympic rankings, decided to take a break from the World Triathlon Series circuit after the Olympic cycle, like other elite triathletes.
In this new phase, he opted to debut at home, at the IRONMAN in Florianópolis, Brazil, avoiding the effects of jet lag and enjoying the support of the local public.
The result: a historic marathon and a second-place finish that marked a turning point in his sporting career.
