Melilla hosts the 2025 European Sprint Triathlon Championship

The test has been officially presented

Melilla is already breathing in triathlon. The next ones 19 & 20 of July, the autonomous city will be the nerve center of continental triathlon with the celebration of the 2025 European Sprint Triathlon Championship.

The competition will bring together the categories Elite, Under 23, Junior and Mixed Relays, in an event that promises to be unforgettable for both the athletes and the people of Melilla.

"Melilla is ready to host an event of this magnitude."

During the official presentation of the event, held at the Galapagos Inlet —epicenter of the swimming segment—, the President of the Autonomous City, Juan José Imbroda, thanked the Spanish Triathlon Federation (FETRI) his confidence and assured that “Melilla is very suitable for organizing a test of this magnitude.”

Imbroda also highlighted the work of the Melilla Triathlon Federation, headed by Javier Guillot, as a key driver of triathlon development in the city.

More than 700 visitors and a cruise ship will enhance the atmosphere.

The event will not only attract the continent's best triathletes, but will also have a significant economic and social impact.

According to local authorities, Melilla will receive more than 700 visitors, in addition to passengers on a cruise ship that will coincide with the test.

El Sports Advisor, Miguel Ángel Fernández Bonnemaison, asked the citizens “to make this Championship their own, just as they have made the African Championship their own.”

To facilitate mobility, it will be allowed park at the Cavalry barracks, as well as the Maritime Club will make its facilities available for anti-doping testing. Bonnemaison also asked for understanding regarding the planned traffic disruptions: "Leave your car at home and come out and enjoy this unique event."

A spectacular tour ending in monumental Melilla

El Director of Competitions at FETRI, Jorge García, highlighted that this is “a radical change compared to previous editions.”

The course will take triathletes through Old Melilla, crossing emblematic points such as the Door of Santiago and the Hornwork Pit, before ending in the Plaza of Cultures, the nerve center of the event and the venue for the transitions between segments.

For García, this Championship represents the culmination of more than a decade of relationship between FETRI and Melilla, "a city that deserved a European Championship at the highest level."
