Spencer Matthews completes seven Ironman triathlons on seven continents in 21 days: a historic challenge
Briton Spencer Matthews has completed one of the year's greatest ultra-endurance challenges by finishing seven Ironman-distance triathlons — one on each continent — in just three weeks.
A project named as Project Se7en, whose objective was to raise awareness of male mental health and raise funds for the James' Place organization.

Around the world, Ironman style
What began as an "affordable idea" in London ended up becoming an extreme journey: sweltering heat in Dubai, tremendous humidity in Rio, changeable winds in Cape Town, sleepless nights in Perth, hellish logistics in Arizona and, as a finale, the ice and hostility of Antarctica.
In that final scenario, he completed his seventh Ironman, the toughest of them all, with a time of 28:51:11, a time that also grants him the Guinness World Record for the fastest Ironman completed in Antarctica.
During 21 daysMatthews accumulated the seven classic segments of the distance:
- 7 x 3,8 km swimming
- 7 × 180 km of cycling
- 7 × 42,2 km running
All this without having previously completed a long-distance triathlon. Even so, he was well-prepared: the previous year he had run 30 marathons in 30 days in the desert.
Antarctica, the final chapter
The outcome was as epic as it was anticipated. After almost 29 hours of continuous effort and an icy wind punishing every step, Matthews crossed the finish line with a direct message:
“After a 28-hour and 51-minute war against Antarctica, I can say the job is done… I did it!”
And so he ended the challenge that earned him a second Guinness World Record: Complete an Ironman on all seven continents in the shortest recorded time: 21 days, 9 hours and 18 minutes.

A challenge that transcends sport
Matthews explained that the real driving force behind the project was to raise awareness of men's mental healthIt's a topic he's experienced firsthand. The Briton said he was "excited, devastated, and grateful" all at once after closing this chapter, and warned that now he's only thinking about going home after three weeks of traveling around the world.
On a sporting level, it leaves behind one of the most impressive feats remembered in recent ultra-endurance: a mix of adventure, endurance and social purpose that has captured international attention.
