Tarragona submits its bid to host the 2026 European Triathlon Championship
The city aims to host the European Championship on June 13 and 14.
The city of Tarragona has officially announced its bid to host the 2026 European Triathlon Championship , one of the most important events on the international calendar.
If chosen, the continental event would be held on June 13 and 14, 2026 , with the area around the Port of Tarragona as the epicenter of the competition.
A project with full institutional support
The initiative is led by the Spanish Triathlon Federation (FETRI) and has the support of key institutions such as the Tarragona City Council , the Generalitat of Catalonia (EsportsCat) , the Port Authority of Tarragona , the Catalan Triathlon Federation and the Higher Sports Council (CSD).
An organizing committee that, according to the president of FETRI, José Hidalgo , represents "an opportunity to project the city and Catalonia as benchmarks of triathlon at the European level."
Commitment to an inclusive triathlon
The planned program includes tests in the Elite , Age Groups (in sprint and standard distances) and Paralympic Triathlon categories , consolidating the inclusive approach of the project.
For Mario Soler , the city councilor for Sports and Sports Tourism, the event would be “an exciting challenge” and further proof of Tarragona's organizational capacity. “Our city is a leading sports capital,” he emphasized.
Port of Tarragona: strategic enclave
The project positions the Port of Tarragona as the central hub of the competition. Its infrastructure, logistical capacity, and tourist appeal have been key factors in its selection as the host city.
In the words of the Catalan Minister of Sports , Berni Álvarez , "the location is ideal, not only for 2026, but also for future triathlon events in Catalonia."
