Tauranga to host World Triathlon Finals in 2028
World triathlon ha announced officially what Tauranga (New Zealand) will be the host city of the 2028 Triathlon World Championship Finals, thus consolidating a three-year strategic agreement that includes:
- An World Cup in 2026
- An World Series test in 2027
- And finally the big event of 2028, with competitions for elite, age groups and paratriathlon.
This announcement marks the return of the grand final to New Zealand soil after more than a decade, having previously been played in Queenstown (2003) y Auckland (2012).

The CEO of Triathlon New Zealand, Pete de Wet, highlighted the importance of the event:
“It's a historic day for triathlon in New Zealand. Our elite and age-group athletes will finally have the opportunity to compete on home soil, in front of their fans.”
According to official data, the series of events is expected to attract more than 6.000 international visitors, more than 100.000 nights of accommodation and an estimated economic impact of 25 million in tourism.
