World Triathlon and the Professional Triathletes Organization (PTO) have announced the creation of the Triathlon World Tour, a new global circuit that will start in 2027 and will unify the T100, the current World Series and the World Cups under a single structure.
The Triathlon World Tour will start in 2027 following the agreement between World triathlon and PTO, integrating the T100, the World Series and a new Challenger category into a global circuit with nearly 100 events annually.
A key announcement for the future of international triathlon
World Triathlon and the Professional Triathletes Organization (PTO) They have taken a huge step for the future of triathlon. Both entities have officially confirmed the creation of the Triathlon World Tour, a world circuit that will be launched in 2027 and that seeks to organize, unify and enhance the competitive ecosystem of professional triathlon.
The new project builds on the strategic collaboration signed in October 2024 for a period of 12 years and represents a natural evolution of the successful agreement that gave rise to the T100 Triathlon World Tour.
The goal is clear: to move from a fragmented model, with multiple brands and sports hierarchies, to a coherent, recognizable and attractive structure for athletes, fans, media and sponsors alike.
This will be the new structure of the Triathlon World Tour
From 2027 onwards, the Triathlon World Tour will integrate several competitions under the same brand and sporting ladder:
T100 World Championship Series
The current T100 Triathlon World Tour will be called T100 World Championship Series, maintaining the 100km distance and the non-drafting format that has characterized the circuit since its creation.
This category will crown the official world champions in the 100km distance.
T50 World Championship Series
The current ones World Triathlon Championship Series (WTCS) They will change their name to T50 World Championship Series, maintaining the sprint and standard distances, the core of the Olympic triathlon.
This series will continue to be key for the development of athletes with Olympic ambitions and world titles in short distance running.
Challenger Series, the foundation of the system
Below the world championship series, a new one will be created Challenger Series, which will absorb events such as the current World Cups.
This level will serve as a gateway to the main circuit and as a direct route to qualification for the T100 and T50 series, as well as being key to the Olympic qualification process.
In total, the Triathlon World Tour will feature approximately 100 events annually, spread across different distances and competitive levels.
A global product with unified relay
One of the pillars of the new project will be the creation of a unique and consistent audiovisual productThe PTO will assume the necessary investment to provide consistent broadcasts, with a clear narrative and a recognizable image throughout the year.
The goal is to offer continuous live triathlon coverage, showcasing the talent of the world's best triathletes and making it easier for the average fan to follow the circuit.
This strategy directly responds to the conclusions of Deloitte Report commissioned by World Triathlon, which pointed out the need to evolve towards a more commercial and accessible model for the general public.

The reasons behind the change
The main trigger for this movement has been the Deloitte report, which detected great commercial and global potential in triathlon, but also a clear lack of cohesion.
The study recommended clearly separating governance functions from commercial operations, a common practice in other international sports. This approach has strengthened the role of the PTO as an ideal strategic partner for developing the sports product.
Furthermore, the report highlighted the existing confusion between brands such as World Triathlon, PTO/T100, HOMBRE DE HIERRO o Challenge Family, both for the fans and for the sponsors.

From the athletes' point of view, the response has been positive. The newly crowned 2025 T100 world champions, Hayden Wilde y Kate WaughThey highly valued the role of the T100 as a showcase for modern triathlon.
The president of the World Triathlon Athletes' Committee, Non StanfordHe noted that this alliance is key to the sustainability of the sport and to expanding professional opportunities for triathletes.
The Olympic ambition of the 100km triathlon
Beyond the professional circuit, World Triathlon and the PTO will continue working to ensure the distance of 100 km be considered as an Olympic discipline in the future.
The proposal, first presented in 2024, aligns with the IOC's openness to more participatory formats, as already occurred at the Paris 2024 Games with the Marathon For All.
Although the road is long, creating a solid and recognizable circuit is an essential step for this ambition to have a real future.
A new stage for world triathlon
The creation of Triathlon World Tour It represents one of the biggest structural changes in the recent history of triathlon. It unifies brands, establishes hierarchies, and offers a clear vision of the sport for both fans and athletes.
From 2027 onwards, professional triathlon will have a common narrative, a defined sport ladder, and a global product designed for growth.
