Double Spanish victory at the 2025 TRITON Championship: Carla Abrunhosa and Juan Jiménez conquer Portimão

El TRITON World Series Championship 2026 held its first Grand Final in Portimão, crowning Carla Abrunhosa and Juan Jiménez in the middle distance and closing a season that brought together triathletes from 17 countries.


Portimão dresses up for an international triathlon

During the weekend of October 24th to 26th, the Portuguese Algarve was the scene of the TRITON World Series Grand Final, an event that combined competition, family spirit and a festival atmosphere.

Based in Stone beach, one of the most iconic enclaves in the south of Portugal, the event brought together triathletes from 17 nationalities in three official distances—Sprint, Middle and Long—as well as a corporate event and a family program that brought color to the seafront throughout the weekend.

The TRITON Championship marked the close of the 2026 season and also served to crown the champions of the TRITON world ranking, which rewards the athletes' consistency throughout the year at the different venues on the circuit.

An event with a festival atmosphere and family spirit

Beyond the competition, the TRITON Grand Final turned Portimão into a true sports festival. For three days, the seafront was filled with athletes, their companions, and the local crowd.

There were parallel activities for families, children's races, live music and a TRITON Expo with specialized brands in the sector. This event model, very much in line with international sports festivals, seeks to bring triathlon to all audiences and strengthen the relationship between athletes from different categories.

The organizers also highlighted the collaboration with the municipality of Portimão and the Algarve tourism sector, whose infrastructure and climate were key to the event's success.

Closing the season and looking to the future

With this Grand Final, the TRITON World Series put an end to its 2026 season. The organization confirmed that the 2027 calendar will be announced in November, along with the new destination that will host the next TRITON Championship.

Everything points to an expansion of the circuit to new European and Latin American locations, with the goal of consolidating TRITON as a global benchmark in middle-distance triathlon.
