The Ultraman World Championships 2025 enters its second day in Hawaii with 18 athletes in the race and the outstanding presence of the Spaniard Juan Bautista Castilla “Chamba”, current world champion.
The toughest 515 kilometers of extreme triathlon
A new edition of the tournament will be held on November 28, 29 and 30. Ultraman World Championships 2025 In Kailua-Kona, the world epicenter of extreme triathlon, the race once again brings together a select group of athletes capable of facing one of the greatest endurance challenges on the planet: completing 515 km on three consecutive days around the Big Island.
This year they started the test 20 athletesAll of them had a previous Ultraman under their belt and were accompanied by a mandatory support crew. Two competitors did not make the cut-off times on the first day, so 18 are still in the race.
A journey that defines the spirit of ultra-endurance
Ultraman has maintained its historic format since 1983:
Day 1 – 10 km swim + 145 km bike
The participants join Kailua Bay Keauhou They swim in the open sea, where currents and waves can make a difference from the start. Afterwards, they face a demanding cycling leg, with changing terrain and elevation changes on volcanic asphalt.
Day 2 – 276 km of cycling
The longest and most decisive stage. A route that circles the Big Island and crosses areas typically characterized by wind, accumulated heat, and long straights. This is where the race usually breaks apart.
Day 3 – 84 km run (double marathon)
The closure starts from How towards Kona via the iconic Queen Ka'ahumanu HighwayA scenario where exhaustion, loneliness, and heat define who can complete the challenge.
Each day has a maximum limit of 12hexcept for swimming, which has a strict cut-off of 5 and a half hours.
Race situation: 18 athletes on the road and Max Kniazeu in the lead
With the second day already underway, the provisional leader is Max Kniazeuwho completed a solid first day and maintains a very steady pace on the long cycling leg.
This year's starting lineup includes athletes from Canada, Sweden, Australia, Brazil, Argentina, Spain and the United States, along with local crews representing the traditional values of the event: Aloha, ohana y kokua.

The Spaniards at Ultraman 2025
Spain is once again taking center stage in ultra-endurance with three prominent names:
- Juan Bautista Castilla “Chamba”: current champion of the Ultraman World Championship 2024, where he made history by becoming the first Spaniard to win the title. He arrives with experience, mental strength, and the ability to manage the three days consistently.
- Miguel Ángel Domínguez Cano
- Álvaro Núñez Alfaro
“Chamba” is once again among the favorites due to his dominance in ultradistance running and his solid performance in extreme events. His goal: to maintain his lead from the long day onward and arrive at the double marathon with a real chance of defending his title.

In addition to “Chamba”, the following stand out:
- David Matheson (Canada), 53 years old and with several previous participations.
- Scott McDermott (Canada), 56 years old, also a veteran of the event.
