Gurutze Frades wins the 2025 La Rioja Half Marathon.

El Sunday May 25, the streets of Logroño were filled with color and a sporting atmosphere on the occasion of the 33rd edition of the La Rioja Half Marathon.

The race returned to pre-pandemic participation figures, with more than 900 athletes at the starting line, in an edition marked by its popular character and open to all types of runners.

Demanding conditions and heat from the start

The departure took place at 10:00 from the street Dukes of Nájera, with clear skies and an already high temperature that increased during the race.

The route, without major technical difficulties, became a challenge for many due to the heat and the lack of refreshment points in the final sections.

Gurutze Frades dominates in the women's category

In the women's category, the great protagonist was the Basque triathlete Gurutze Frades (Bilbao Athletics), who crossed the finish line at Paseo del Espolón with a time of 1h19: 44, claiming victory with authority.

The local athlete followed her Esther Rodríguez (ADAS-CUPA) with 1h21: 53, while third place went to the also Logroño native Gema Olave (Rioja Marathon), with a time of 1h29: 02.

Just a few months ago, in December 2024, Frades shared publicly that they had removed a uterine myoma through Caesarean section, after a year of physical discomfort that he suffered even during his participation in the HOMBRE DE HIERRO from Nice.

"The fibroid was so large that I had to have a C-section to remove it. It had caused me many problems throughout the year," she wrote on social media at the time.

Far from collapsing, in April it already showed signs of recovery. winning a 10K also in Logroño, but this Sunday was a different story: 21 kilometers under the heat, with less food than desired, and with Frades who showed why she remains one of the greats of the Spanish fund.

Iván Asensio, men's champion

In men, the victory went to the Irun native Ivan Asensio, which stopped the clock in 1h12: 16. The podium was completed by the Riojan Nacho Garcia (ADAS-CUPA) with 1h13: 01, and the Navarrese Youssef Chelch (Club Ribera Atlético) with 1h13: 34.
