ICAN Triathlon Gandia 2025: Nacho Villarruel and Patricia Bueno win in an epic day

Nacho Villarruel and Patricia Bueno were crowned champions of the ICAN Triathlon Gandia 2025, putting in a brilliant performance in the premier distance of the national triathlon.
A marathon day of triathlon in Gandia
Valencia, October 18, 2025. Gandia once again became the epicenter of the national triathlon with the dispute of a new edition of the ICAN Triathlon, which brought together hundreds of athletes in its three distances: Full, Half and Short.
From early morning until almost midnight, the city experienced a true sporting celebration, with thousands of spectators cheering on the triathletes along the seafront and in the port.
The day began at 8:00 a.m. with the departure EARLY START of the Full Distance, where triathletes had an additional 1h 20' to complete the test.
A format that once again demonstrated the event's excellent organization and Gandia's commitment to long-distance triathlon.
Villarruel and Manyà, a long-distance duel of titans
At Full Distance PRO, the fight for victory was as close as it was exciting.
Nacho Villarruel He came out of the water first, demonstrating his swimming proficiency.
During the 180 km of cycling, Roger Manya He closed the gap to take the lead, completing the segment on the streets and roads of the Valencian coast with an excellent average.
But the run would be decisive. Villarruel, who had already won the ICAN three years earlier, drew on his experience and endurance to reduce Manyà's lead lap after lap.
With two laps to go, they were running practically side by side, with the finish line in Gandia awaiting them, enveloped in shouts and applause.
The outcome was like a movie: Nacho Villarruel crossed the finish line in 8:14:29, barely 15 seconds before Roger Manya, who achieved a sensational second place.
The Belgian Guillaume Montoisy, faithful to his consistency, repeated third place on the final podium.
Patricia Bueno fulfills her golden dream
In the female category, Patricia Bueno, from the Peñota Alusigma Dental, finally got rid of the thorn and achieved the long-awaited victory in Gandia, imposing himself with authority from start to finish.
The absence of the Belgian Alexandra Tondeur, one of the favorites, left the race open, but Bueno gave no option to anyone: she led the three segments with an impeccable execution and crossed the finish line with a time of 9:47:05.
Her teammate Ana Camino Lacarte completed Peñota's double with 10:43:29, while third place was left vacant among the PROs.
Pello Osoro shines in the middle distance
At Half Distance, the favorite did not fail.
Pello Osoro, who ultimately opted to compete in the middleweight instead of the full-weight, once again demonstrated his dominance at this distance.
The Basque rider set the pace from the swim and extended his lead on the bike to secure a comfortable victory at the finish line at the port of Gandia.
The men's podium was completed by the Valencians Adrian Escrig (3PW Almazora) and David Blasco (CEA Bétera), consolidating a notable local performance.
Among women, the Polish Alicja Ulatowska (Peñota Dental Alusigma) took the victory with a time of 4:08:04, followed by Tania Álvarez (AD Triathlon Ecoesport Alcobendas) and Lauryne Van Laeken (3T).
Valencian dominance in the Short Distance
The first goals of the day corresponded to the short distance, where the triathletes of the Valencian Community they shone with their own light.
German Cister (Tricanet de Berenguer) took the victory, followed by Nacho Tomas (A7 Triathlon LAW) and Sergio Marco (Gandia Triathlon Club).
In the female category, the triumph was for Paula Irala (CDE Ohana Sport Club), with Noelia Pinilla (CDE Triathlon San Sebastián de los Reyes) in second place and Laura Arroyo (Yepa! Triatloi Kluba) completing the podium.
ICAN Gandia, headquarters of the regional championship and organizational model
El ICAN Triathlon Gandia 2025 welcomed back the Regional Championships of the Valencian Triathlon Federation in the Half and Full Distance modalities, as well as the Aquabike MD & LD.
The awards ceremony for the Short and Aquabike events were held on the same Saturday, while the Full and Half events took place on Sunday 19th in the Aula Magna of the Polytechnic University of Gandia, in an emotional event that brought together champions and local authorities.
The event was supported by the Gandia Town Hall, Gandia Esports, Visit Gandia, Valencian generalitat, Provincial Council of Valencia and Port Authority.
In addition, the municipalities of Taverns of Valldigna, Xeresa, Xeraco and Cullera They actively participated in the organization, reinforcing the regional and tourist character of the event.
Amongst the technical partners they stood out Run&Pro, official supplier of the event, and Nutrisport, responsible for nutrition at the refreshment stations and the post-finish area.
For its part, Transvia Sport coordinated the accommodation logistics for the participants, consolidating the seal of quality that characterizes ICAN Gandia.

ICAN Gandia: 12 years consolidating long-distance travel in Spain
With this edition, the ICAN Triathlon Gandia held its 12 º aniversario, reaffirming itself as one of the most beloved events of the calendar national.
Beyond the results, the event once again stood out for its atmosphere, the closeness of the audience, and the commitment of an organization that manages to improve year after year.
The Valencian coast, with its blend of sea, mountains, and ideal temperatures for racing in October, remains the perfect setting to bid farewell to the long-distance season.
