Laura Philipp breaks the IRONMAN record with 8:03:13 in Hamburg

This Saturday, June 1, 2025, was an unforgettable day in HOMBRE DE HIERRO Hamburg, where the German Laura Philipp Not only was she crowned European champion, but she rewrote the history of women's triathlon with a time of 8:03:13, the fastest ever recorded in an official IRONMAN franchise test.

The event started late due to adverse weather conditions, but emotions soon ignited with a three-way duel between Philipp, the British Kat matthews and the Norwegian debutante Solveig Lovseth.

Duel to the limit between Philipp and Matthews

From the swim, Matthews set the pace, closely followed by Philipp and Løvseth. In the cycling segment, the Norwegian even led the race until suffering a problem with her handlebars, which forced her to stop at the mechanical tent. Even so, she remained in the lead group, while Philipp and Matthews began their unique tug-of-war on two wheels.

Matthews managed to open a gap before the second half and set off with a lead of almost a minute. During the first few kilometers of the marathon, she seemed to be in control, but Philipp began to close the gap until he caught up with her shortly after kilometer 2. The German's pace was devastating: 2:38:27 in the final 42 km.

Records, excitement, and an out-of-this-world podium

With his time of 8:03:13, Laura Philipp set the new women's IRONMAN franchise record, beating the 8:10:34 that had been set by the team itself. Matthews just five weeks ago in Texas.

The British, despite not taking the victory, crossed the finish line in 8:05:13, also improving her previous record. Third place went to Lovseth, who in his first Ironman stopped the clock in 8:12:18, becoming the best female debut of all time.

The top 5 was completed by the Germans Anne Reichmann (8: 21) and Lionie Konczalla.

On the way to Kona: the bar keeps rising

This result not only establishes Philipp as the fastest woman in Ironman (franchise), but also sends a clear message ahead of the World Championships in Kona: the top figures are in top form and women's triathlon is experiencing a golden era.

Solo Anne Haug, with his 8:02:38 in Challenge Roth, has gone faster than Philipp… and only by 35 seconds.

The road to Hawaii is open, but after Hamburg, all eyes will be on a date that promises even more history.
