Marta Sánchez third in the IRONMAN Lake Placid

The American town of Lake Placid was once again the scene of one of the most emblematic tests of the calendar American HOMBRE DE HIERRO.

Under intermittent rain, low temperatures and a relentless journey, Marta Sanchez signed one of his best performances of the season with a third place that reinforces his candidacy to the top of the IRONMAN Pro Series 2025.

With a final time of 8:53:07, the Catalan climbed onto the podium ahead of Tamara jewett, who had the best running time of the day (2:40:05) but was unable to catch the Spaniard in the final kilometers.

Strong start in the water and partial leadership on the bike

The women's race started with a swim without a wetsuit. Marta Sanchez came out of the water in third position (53:23), behind Rebecca Clarke y Holly Lawrence, who set a strong initial pace.

From the first kilometers of the cycling segment, the Spanish woman was aggressive, joining forces with Lisa Perterer to make a difference. Both opened a gap on their pursuers, although the Austrian received a 3-minute penalty for riding close to a male group.

Despite the punishment, Perterer managed to reconnect with Marta before T2. They both led with authority, followed by Solveig Lovseth, who began his particular comeback from behind.

Løvseth sweeps the marathon; Marta holds on to secure the podium.

The Norwegian Solveig Lovseth, who had already shone in Hamburg, completed a marathon in 2:46:49 to secure an uncontested victory with a new course record of 8:43:29. He overtook Peterer at kilometer 30 and never looked back.

The Austrian was second (8:46:50), while Marta Sanchez He held onto third place despite Jewett's push. His run split was 3:02:06, a solid pace given the day's conditions.

At the finish line, Marta acknowledged: “I knew every second counted. All I could think about was holding onto the podium until the end. I saw all the people cheering me on in the rain, and I thought I had to keep giving it my all.”

Marquardt takes revenge in the men's event

In the men's category, the victory went to Matthew Marquardt, who completed the course in 7:50:08.

His marathon time of 2:39:53 allowed him to turn around the script from the previous year, when Trevor foley snatched the victory from him. This time, Foley led on the bike but fell flat on the foot, losing to Marquardt and the Dane Kristian Høgenhaug, who was second.
