Sir Bani Yas Challenge This weekend will kick off the 2026 Challenge Family season with one of the most unique events on the international calendar, held on a protected island off the coast of Abu Dhabi.
The test, located in the Sir Bani Yas Island, marks the official start of the competitive season for Challenge Family in 2026. The event is held in an isolated natural environment, with routes surrounded by coastline and nature reserves, far from the usual urban settings of international triathlon.
One of the most powerful season openers on the Challenge circuit
From a sporting perspective, Challenge Sir Bani Yas will feature a record number of professional participants in the middle distance, with 57 men and 33 women registered or with a total prize of $60.000These figures place the event as one of the strongest season starts in recent years within the Challenge Family.
The race will also serve as first competitive test of the year for several triathletes who aspire to play a prominent role throughout the 2026 calendar.
Guisolan returns and a very open male lineup
The reigning champion returns in the men's competition. Jonathan Guisolan, who will compete with the number one bib after his victory in the previous edition.
Among the main contenders, the following stand out: Jonas Schomburg, currently ninth in the ranking PTO, and Pieter Heemeryck, who continues his process of returning to the highest level after the bicycle accident he suffered at the beginning of 2025.
