Saidia Triathlon World Cup: 13 Spaniards at the start
Just after the Multisport World Cup in Pontevedra, the calendar gives no respite and takes us to the northeast coast of Morocco.
The city of Saïdia welcome this Sunday 29 June a new edition of the Triathlon World Cup, under Olympic distance and with a large Spanish participation: nothing less than 13 triathletes at the starting line.
Spain crosses the Strait with 13 triathletes
The proximity to Melilla has allowed for a broad national presence, including both established figures and young newcomers.
At male test, the leader of the expedition will be Kevin Tarek Viñuela, who arrives in good shape after his intense week with the Aquathlon and the Tri Cross.
Next to him will be Jarno Pousada, Eduardo Blanco, Andrew Hilary, Xoel Rodríguez, Daniel Toulouse, Gorka Rodriguez, Biel Colomina y David Ramirez. Keep an eye on Blanco, who could be in the lead after the water, and Pousada, who has already demonstrated his level this season.
The cycling route will consist of 8 laps, which increases the tactical and physical demands. Eliminations due to lapping are not ruled out, especially among the younger swimmers who could fall behind in the swim. This will require extreme alertness from the first meter.
Only four girls, but with options for everything
In the female category, Marta Pintanel, Noelia Juan, Maria Casals y Maria Barcelo they will be our representatives.
The first two, with extensive international experience, arrive with real chances of finishing in the top eight or even on the podium. Casals, for her part, has already proven to be very competitive in international events.
The ranking favors the Spanish: the favorites Verena Steinhauser (ITA), Sandra Dodet (FRA) and Ainsley thorpe (NZL) do not excel in swimming, which could allow our triathletes to reach the leading group from the start.
International rivals to watch
Among men, the Canadian Tyler Mislawchuk is the big favorite. Also notable are John Reed (USA.), Callum McClusky (AUS) and Bence Bicsák (HUN), all with World Cup experience.
In the women's event, in addition to those mentioned, there will be Marta Kropkó (HUN), Mathilde Gautier (FRA), Ilaria Zane (ITA), Eva Goodison (NZL) and Ainsley thorpe, with several top 10 finishes in his history.
