Like every July, Vitoria-Gasteiz is preparing to host its sporting event par excellence: the 1stRONMAN Vitoria-Gasteiz.

This Sunday, July 13, the capital of Alava will once again thrill with one of Europe's most renowned long-distance events.

With about 2.000 triathletes on the starting lineThis edition stands out for its growing female participation and a unique atmosphere that makes this race an unforgettable experience.

International commitment and popular spirit

El HOMBRE DE HIERRO Vitoria maintains its essence: a test designed by and for the popular triathlete. Although this year there will be a professional women's category, the true soul of the event will be the Age Groups (GGEE), where 51% of participants will be tackling the Ironman distance for the first time.

Furthermore, the international character is unquestionable: 81 nationalities will be represented, with 67% of foreign triathletes, including the United Kingdom, France, Belgium and the Netherlands.

A journey that will captivate you: nature, history and passion

The IRONMAN Vitoria-Gasteiz route captivates from the first meter, combining nature, history, and a unique atmosphere.

The test starts with 38 km of swimming in the Ullibarri-Gamboa reservoir, a location that many consider to be the best swimming circuit in Europe. Surrounded by wetlands, forests, and unspoiled nature, it offers unbeatable conditions for starting the day.

The triathletes will then face the 180 km of cycling along a fast and fluid route that crosses the Alava plain, borders the Sierra de Elguea and passes through charming villages, without major slopes, allowing you to maintain a good pace and enjoy the surroundings.

Finally, the 42,2 km of the marathon They take place over four laps through the historic center of Vitoria-Gasteiz, with a spectacular finish in Plaza España, one of the most lively finishes on the IRONMAN circuit at an international level.

Regional championship and counting towards the national ranking

The test will be held at the Álava Triathlon Championship and the Basque Country Long Distance Championship, in addition to being eligible for the National Ranking of Medium and Long Distance of the Spanish Triathlon Federation, which adds an extra competitiveness.

Women's elite start list: three favorites and a Spaniard eager for revenge.

In 2025, the IRONMAN Vitoria-Gasteiz will feature only professional women's competition, but the level will not be lower.

Quite the opposite: some of the best triathletes on the international scene will be on the starting line.

Anne Haug (GER), the 2019 world champion, heads into the event eager to redeem herself after an inconsistent season. Her recent victory at the Volcano Triathlon in Lanzarote demonstrates that her form is on the rise, and Vitoria could be the perfect setting to rediscover her best form.

Next to her will be Julie Derron (SUI), who is coming off a win at the San Francisco T100. Although she's making her long-distance debut, her explosiveness and solidity make her one of the biggest unknowns with a chance at anything.

Another strong candidate for the podium is Marjolaine pierre (FRA), the current long-distance triathlon world champion, who arrives in great shape and with the ambition to make her mark on Basque soil.

And, of course, the Spanish presence could not be missed with Carolina Fernández Ortuño, who will be making his third appearance in Vitoria after an unfortunate injury in the last VI Half Gasteiz. He arrives eager for revenge and a strong performance in front of the home crowd.
