Pontevedra 2025 Long Distance Triathlon World Championship Preview
This Sunday, June 29, Pontevedra celebrates the World Long Distance Triathlon Championship, the most anticipated event of the 2025 Multisport World Championship.
After ten intense days of competitions in duathlon, aquathlon and triathlon, Boa Vila is preparing to close with a flourish an event that has brought together almost 4.000 athletes from 44 countries.
The current world champion, the Spanish Antonio Benito, will be the star of the show at 8:00 a.m. The La Mancha native, in excellent form, will be looking to retain the title he won in Townsville 2024 and emulate the legendary Javier Gómez Noya, who was crowned on these same streets in 2019.
A men's TriArmada with real chances of reaching the podium
The Spanish team is coming in strong. In addition to Benito , stand out Guillem Montiel, recent European middle distance champion and winner in Zarautz; Jordi Montraveta, second in Lanzarote and debuting with the national team; and Mikel Ugarte, with proven experience and a solid sixth place in Lanzarote this year.
Led by the coach Iñaki Arenal, the TriArmada is presented as one of the most powerful blocks in the men's competition.
Judith Corachán, only female representative
In the female category, Judith Corachán She'll be the only Spanish athlete in the running, but she has a clear chance of fighting for medals. Second at the 2019 Pontevedra World Championships, Judith arrives motivated and knows the circuit better than anyone.
Their main rivals will be the Polish Martha Lagownik (2024 world champion), the French Pierre Marjolaine (gold in Ibiza 2023) and the Italian Marta Bernardi, all of them with sufficient level to fight for the podium.

A city dedicated to triathlon
The official presentation of the event was held in Pontevedra City Hall, attended by local and national federation authorities, as well as athletes and the national team's technical staff.
The mayor participated in the event Miguel Anxo Fernandez Lores, the president of the Spanish Federation José Hidalgo, the president of the Galician Federation Javier Campos and the vice president of World Triathlon Antonio Alvarez.
Pontevedra thus confirms its role as the international capital of triathlon after having already hosted the 2019 World Championships and the Grand Final of the World Series in 2023. In 2026, the city will once again host the Grand Final, consolidating its prestige in the calendar internationally.
