This Sunday, June 8, the HOMBRE DE HIERRO 70.3 Eagleman hosts the ninth round of the IRONMAN Pro Series 2025, with 2.500 points at stake and a prize of $50.000 for professionals.

The historic town of Cambridge, Maryland, will be the scene of a true clash of titans, in both the men's and women's events.

Charles-Barclay vs. Sodaro: Clash of Queens

On the women's side, all eyes will be on Lucy Charles-Barclay (GBR), IRONMAN world champion in 2023, and in Chelsea Sodaro (USA), winner of the title in 2022.

The British athlete, following her victory at IRONMAN Lanzarote, arrives in impressive form, although she hasn't competed in the middle distance for some time. Sodaro, meanwhile, will be looking to regain her form after her health issues in Texas and St. George.

Also joins the lineup Tamara Jewett (CAN), with a winning record at 70.3 and a solid debut over the full distance in April. We'll undoubtedly see a relentless battle in every segment.

Sam Long, without Sanders, goes all out

In the men's category, the absence of Lionel Sanders has left Sam long (United States) as the heavy favorite. The “Big Unit” dropped the San Francisco T100 to focus on Eagleman, motivated by his longstanding rivalry with Sanders… but will ultimately compete without him.

Paul Schuster (GER), sixth in IRONMAN Texas, and Ben Kanute (USA), fifth at Oceanside, could make things difficult for Long. But if he repeats his performance at 70.3 Chattanooga, it will be difficult for him to let victory slip away.

A quick tour… if the wind allows it

  • Swimming (1,9 km): It will be held on the Choptank River, starting and finishing at Gerry Boyle Park. The course is a clockwise rectangular course in brackish water.
  • Cycling (90 km): Completely flat, with only 100 meters of elevation gain. It runs through rural areas and the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge, but the wind can be a major enemy.
  • Running race (21 km): 2 laps along the banks of the Choptank and the Algonquin residential neighborhood. A flat, fast course, ideal for finding good marks.

Where to watch the event live

The race will be broadcast live and free from here

or on the following platforms.

The men's PRO start will be at 05:45 (local time), 11:45 a.m. in Spain followed by the women's race five minutes later. The age group category will begin at 05:55 with progressive starts.

What's at stake in the IRONMAN Pro Series

Eagleman is the ninth stop of the IRONMAN Pro Series, a circuit that distributes points over 18 events around the world. Winners of 70.3 events receive up to 2.500 points, and the final champion takes nothing less than $200.000.

Only the five best results of each triathlete, so every race can be decisive. Currently, Long and Charles-Barclay are well positioned to make a big impact.
