This next Sunday 29 June, Frankfurt will host one of the most anticipated tests of the calendar long distance: the European Championship HOMBRE DE HIERRO closet, which this year is part of the circuit IRONMAN Pro Series.

With a poster that seems taken from a World Championship, the German test will bring together great figures of the distance such as Kristian Blummenfelt, Patrick Lange, Magnus ditlev y Gustav Iden, along with a good number of international athletes ready to shake up the classification.

A fight for the European throne… and for points

The Norwegian Kristian Blummenfelt, current champion in Frankfurt and winner of the 2021 IRONMAN World Championship, arrives in great form after his victories in IRONMAN Texas y 70.3 Aix-en-ProvenceAlthough his season started off on a sour note in Oceanside, he has bounced back strongly and is looking to score key points to lead the Pro Series standings.

At his side will be his compatriot Gustav Iden, who is gradually recovering his form after a 2024 season complicated by injuries. His generational teammate, Casper Stornes, forming the well-known “Norwegian Hype Train".

But Frankfurt will not be just Nordic territory. The German Patrick LangeThe 2024 Kona world champion returns home eager for revenge after a 2025 season marred by injury. Although he only competed in Oceanside (where he finished 17th), if he's recovered, his ability to run a marathon in under 2:35 makes him a formidable opponent.

Danish Magnus ditlevDitlev, for his part, is synonymous with power on the bike. His goal will be to open up a gap in the cycling segment, as he did in Roth and South Africa, and defend it in the marathon. Ditlev, who has already won four of his last seven completed Ironmans, knows that a good result here could put him squarely in the fight for the final Pro Series title.

Other names to follow

Along with the big favorites, several athletes could spring a surprise. The American Rudy von berg, third in Kona 2024 and IRONMAN Texas, arrives with confidence and without the pressure of having to win. The Briton Kieran Lindars, second last year in Frankfurt, will be looking to repeat his podium finish and secure his place in Nice.

German will also have to be taken into account. Jonas Schomburg, who has shone in the swimming segment in previous events, and the Danish Kristian Høgenhaug, who could be the first to reach T2 if he repeats his offensive strategy on the bike.

A circuit designed for epic battles

The Frankfurt course is designed to generate excitement. The swimming takes place in the Langener Waldsee, with an “Aussie exit” halfway through.

The 180-km bike ride combines flat stretches and challenging climbs in a two-loop route that runs through the city and rural areas to the northeast.

The final marathon takes place in the city center, along the banks of the Main River, on a flat course with a large crowd. Ideal for runners like Blummenfelt o Long, which can take advantage of their power in the final kilometers.

What's at stake

In addition to the prestige of the European title, the test distributes $ 87.500 in prizes, with $28.000 for the winner, 5 places for the 2025 World Cup in Nice and key points for the ranking of the IRONMAN Pro Series, whose final leader will receive a bonus of $ 200.000.

Blummenfelt is currently fifth in the standings with 9.312 points, while Ditlev and Wurf are ahead. A win for the Norwegian could restore him to the lead.
