El T100 Triathlon World Tour lands this Saturday, August 30th on the French Riviera, with Fréjus as the epicenter of a historic double-header: T100 on Saturday and WTCS on Sunday.
The event brings together a large part of the world's middle-distance elite, although two of the season's biggest names will not be present: mika noodt y Youri Keulen, absent due to rest and illness respectively.
A circumstance that opens up the range of options for the rest of the favorites in the fight for key points ahead of the Grand Final in Qatar.
The tour
- Swimming: 2 km in Mediterranean waters, in a single loop facing Base Nature Plage beach.
- Cycling: a circuit initially announced as hilly, but which will eventually be contested in a multi-lap format.
- Race on foot: Flat and fast courses within the Base Nature François Léotard park, ideal for the show and the public.
Absences and opportunities
The leader of the classification, mika noodt, rests after winning four consecutive events and thinks about the Grand Final in Qatar.
Youri Keulen, for his part, still recovering from an illness, has preferred not to take any risks.
These losses open the door to triathletes like Hayden Wilde, recent winner in London and big favorite to add a third victory on the circuit, or Antonio Benito, seventh overall and ready to fight for the top positions.
Also returning are important figures such as Vincent Luis, motivated after overcoming an injury, and Pieter Heemeryck, along with wildcards such as Sam Dickinson, Dylan magnien y Wilhelm Hirsch.
Favorites in the male category
- Hayden Wilde (NZL): Back in form after his accident and looking for his third win of the year.
- Jelle Geens (BEL): current world number one, he arrives after consecutive podium finishes in San Francisco, Vancouver and London.
- Rich Bogen (GER): winner in San Francisco and always dangerous in the middle distance.
- Antonio Benito (ESP): fourth in Vancouver, with the unknown of his preparation two weeks before HOMBRE DE HIERRO from Niza.
- Léo Bergere, Morgan Pearson y Vincent Luis: French and American dynamite to liven up the test.
Favorites in the female category
The women's season has been the most open in recent years, with four different winners in the first four events:
- Kate Waugh (GBR) and Julie Derron (SUI) arrive as main references.
- Lucy Charles-Barclay does not compete here, which leaves room for runners like Jess Learmonth, Ashleigh Gentle, Lucy byram, Taylor Spivey o Paula Findlay.
- Attention to Georgia Taylor-Brown, who shined in Supertri Chicago and will seek revenge after his bad luck in London.
What's at stake
The T100 French Riviera delivers 250.000 dollars in prizes and valuable Tour de France points. The winner takes home $25.000 and 35 points, key to the race's chances of winning the title in Qatar.
