T100 Wollongong 2025 Preview

The T100 circuit arrives in Australia with the Wollongong 2025 event, a key event before the finals in the Middle East. Hayden Wilde and Kate Waugh are the favorites.

The 2025 Wollongong T100: the penultimate stop before the circuit's finale

Next Saturday October 18 the coastal city of Wollongong (Australia) will become the epicenter of international triathlon.

La PTO T100 Triathlon World Tour It is holding its penultimate round of the year there, a decisive event to define the title contenders before the final two races in the Middle East (Dubai and Qatar).

Both men and women will compete on the same day, with the women's race starting at 14:00 p.m. local time (5:00 a.m. in Spain) and the men's race shortly after. The event can be followed live via OutsideTV with free access.

A fast circuit with climbs that will make a difference

The Wollongong course maintains the format multilap A regular on the T100 circuit, combining television spectacularity and logistical control.

  • Swimming: Three laps from the beach to the Breakwater Lighthouse, with Australian starts that will allow you to closely follow who sets the pace from the water.
  • Cycling: six laps with a short but demanding climb at the start of each turn, ideal for breaking groups.
  • Race on foot: seven laps around the port area and Flagstaff Hill before the finish line, located just a few meters from City Beach.

The route is technical, with stretches of coastal wind and tight turns, perfect for the most aggressive triathletes, both on the bike and in the final race.

Men: Hayden Wilde looks for a clean sweep

The great protagonist of the year in middle distance is Hayden WildeThe New Zealander, leader of the ranking with a perfect score (140 points), has won in Singapore, London, the French Riviera and Spain, and has already secured the virtual title before the finale in Qatar.

Even so, the current number one in the PTO rankings isn't slowing down. Racing in Australia gives him the opportunity to add another significant cash prize and, above all, prevent his direct rivals from catching up on points.

Among the main contenders to challenge him for victory are:

  • Mika Noodt (Germany): He's back after a mid-season break. Three podium finishes in his first three races of the year and a training session on the Gold Coast make him the only one with a real chance of troubling Wilde.
  • Samuel Dickinson (United Kingdom): The best wildcard on the circuit. He needs a top-10 finish to secure a spot in the Qatar final. He'll likely set the pace in the water.
  • Menno Koolhaas (Netherlands): After overcoming an ankle injury, he wants to regain his form. If he stays in the leading group on the bike, he can fight for the podium.
  • Jason West (USA): The best pure runner on the circuit. If he finishes with less than a two-minute disadvantage at T2, he could make up ground in the final half marathon.

The Women: Kate Waugh, facing her big break

One week after World HOMBRE DE HIERRO by KonaThe women's T100 circuit will experience an atypical race: many of the big stars arrive with the wear and tear of Hawaii, while others arrive with renewed energy and a thirst for points.

The British Kate Waugh, currently number 2 in the general classification (119 points), starts as the favorite. If she manages to finish among the top two, she will overtake Lucy Charles-Barclay and will take the lead in the series before Dubai.

Waugh, champion in Singapore and second in London and Spain, has been very consistent throughout the season. Her strength lies in swimming and bike: In Wollongong he could open a gap from the start and run alone.

In their wake will be several rivals with different objectives:

  • Ashleigh Gentle (Australia): She's racing at home and needs at least a sixth-place finish to improve her overall score. She's already been crowned champion on the French Riviera and fourth in Spain.
  • Caroline Pohle (Germany): After overcoming several physical setbacks, she has achieved two good results (7th on the French Riviera and 5th in Spain).
  • Ellie Salthouse (Australia): One of the most successful middle-distance triathletes with 26 wins. She plays at home and specializes in steep courses.
  • Grace Thek (Australia): His strong suit is the race. If he starts less than three minutes behind the leader, he can climb many positions.

With Lucy Charles-Barclay and Kat Matthews recovering from the Kona effort, Wollongong offers a unique opportunity for the second-string athletes to make a podium and even surprise Waugh.

Spaniards and the international context

Spanish participation will be reduced, with Sara Perez Sala as the only confirmed representative.

The Catalan will be looking for a top-10 finish to keep her among the best swimmers on the circuit. Although she's not in contention for the title, Wollongong could help her strengthen her presence in the 2026 Pro Series.

On an international level, Wollongong is shaping up to be a strategic event. With Wilde and Waugh dominating their respective rankings, the focus is on who will make it onto the podium and which athletes will consolidate their spot in the final two events of the year.
