COROS PACE 4 Review: AMOLED, lightweight and powerful battery for distraction-free training

The COROS PACE 4 is an ultralight AMOLED GPS watch designed for athletes who prioritize visibility, battery life, and simplicity. We analyzed its real-world performance in training and competition, with a particular focus on triathlon use.

The COROS PACE 4 is a sports GPS watch with a 1,2-inch AMOLED display, weighing only 32 grams (in the nylon strap option) and offering up to 41 hours of battery life in GPS mode.

It's geared towards triathletes and runners who prioritize visibility, lightness, and simplicity over advanced "smart" features. In this review, we analyze its actual suitability for training and competition, including the wide range of sports supported by its software.

A watch designed for what matters most in triathlon

In triathlon, a watch doesn't have to do everything: it has to do the important things well.

In this case, the priorities are clear data reading, reliability, sufficient battery life for long workouts, a simple and effective experience, and compatibility with major training control platforms such as Strava or TrainingPeaks.

With the COROS PACE 4, the brand takes a step forward in its mid-range by incorporating an AMOLED screen without losing its DNA: extreme lightness, focus on performance, ease of use, and a very competitive price-quality ratio.

What does the COROS PACE 4 offer the triathlete?

The Pace 4 is geared towards those who train regularly and want a lightweight, reliable, and training-focused watch.

The combination of an AMOLED screen, very low weight and up to 41 hours of GPS makes it a balanced option for both everyday use and short and medium distance competition.

In the case of triathletes, their multisport approach allows for structuring combined sessions and properly controlling the different training segments.

2.5D AMOLED display: visibility in any situation

The biggest leap forward from the Pace 3 is in the screen. The COROS PACE 4 features a 1,2-inch AMOLED touchscreen panel with 2.5D curved edges and automatic brightness adjustment.

In practice, this translates to much clearer readability outdoors, especially useful while cycling or running when the sun shines directly on the screen. The data is displayed sharply and with good contrast from any angle.

As with any AMOLED watch, daily battery life depends on the settings: using the wrist gesture maintains a solid balance between visibility and battery; with the screen always on, consumption increases.

Ultralight technology and slim design

COROS once again sets itself apart in terms of weight and comfort. Weighing just 32g with a nylon strap (40g with silicone) and only 11,8mm thick, it's a watch that's barely noticeable on the wrist.

It remains stable during long sessions, is comfortable to wear all day and even while sleeping—key when using recovery and HRV metrics. The nylon strap is also a great fit for use with a wetsuit, as this model is water-resistant up to 50 meters and suitable for pool and open water swimming.

Data accuracy: GPS and heart rate

The Pace 4 incorporates a redesigned optical heart rate sensor, with a more secure fit to reduce spikes and drops in data during movement.

In terms of positioning, it features all dual-frequency GNSS and GPS systems, resulting in consistent records both in the city and on open routes.

For those seeking maximum precision in demanding workouts, it is compatible with external Bluetooth heart rate monitors, a common recommendation in cycling and high-intensity training.

Autonomy: one of its main arguments

Despite the AMOLED screen, COROS maintains very competitive figures: up to 41 hours of GPS and up to 19 days of daily use.

This allows you to train calmly throughout the week without having to worry about the charger, something especially valued by triathletes who combine sessions of various disciplines.

Built-in microphone and voice memos

The Pace 4 incorporates an integrated microphone that allows you to record training notes, quick ideas, or sensations during activity.

These notes are synchronized with the COROS app, where they are automatically transcribed into text, making it easy to record your training log without having to take out your phone.

Route navigation, without maps

The watch allows you to follow routes uploaded from the COROS app or platforms like Strava, Wikiloc or RideWithGPS, with breadcrumb navigation and alerts if you deviate from the route.

It doesn't include full mapping on the watch itself, a decision consistent with its lightweight, performance-oriented focus. For most training and competitions, it's sufficient, although those who regularly train in technical mountain terrain might miss having complete maps.

Advanced training tools

The COROS PACE 4 includes performance-oriented metrics such as VO₂ max, lactate threshold, race status, race predictor, virtual pacer, interval training, race power, and personalized marathon plans.

All of this is managed from the COROS app, which also acts as a training, recovery and health center, with synchronization with platforms such as TrainingPeaks.

Health monitoring and recovery

In addition to training, the Pace 4 monitors daily activity, sleep (light, deep and REM), heart rate variability (HRV), recovery and menstrual cycles.

This data helps to understand how the body responds to training load and rest, which is especially useful during bulking phases or demanding weeks.

From Triathlon News: Royal lace in triathlon

In terms of concept and specifications, the Pace 4 is especially well-suited for short and medium distance triathlons, daily training combining disciplines, and for athletes who prioritize lightness, autonomy, and data clarity.

The lack of complete maps may be a factor to consider for profiles highly oriented towards mountain terrain, but for most triathletes it will not be a decisive element.

Our opinion

The COROS PACE 4 is a well-designed, straightforward watch. It doesn't try to compete with €600 or €700 models, nor does it attempt to include features that many triathletes rarely use (such as highly detailed mountain navigation maps, Spotify music streaming, NFC payments, and ECG), and it offers everything you need for less than half the price.

Their proposition is clear: a visible screen, reliable data, good battery life, and truly useful training tools for everyday use. The arrival of the AMOLED screen represents a clear leap forward compared to the Pace 3, especially in terms of outdoor visibility, without significantly compromising the weight or the range's lightweight design philosophy.

However, the Pace 4 also makes its limitations clear. The lack of comprehensive maps is its main weakness and could be a deal-breaker for those who regularly train in the mountains or on technical routes. Furthermore, while battery life is very good for an AMOLED watch, it doesn't quite reach the "absolute peace of mind" of models with MIP displays when using demanding settings like the always-on display, although it's sufficient for racing. HOMBRE DE HIERRO.

Overall, it perfectly fits the profile of the triathlete who wants to train smart, control their workload, and compete without complications by monitoring all the necessary data.
