Nowadays, the question is not what can you do with your Smartphone? If not, can you do something without it?

And it is that we are in an era in which our Smartphone accompanies us at every moment of the day, and can become our ally by being very useful on numerous occasions. One of them is when we play sports. Probably, none of us would think of writing down our times on paper. At a minimum, we would write it down in a spreadsheet or an App for notes, which we always have on hand.

Well, whether you carry your data up to date with paper and pen, or if you use any application, today we are going to tell you a series of interesting applications for sports in general and for triathlon in particular.

STRAVA

It is an application that you can use runners (Strava Run) and cyclists (Strava Cycling). A curious thing that we find in this App, and very useful, is that not only serves us to observe the results during training, but also to monitor the reaction of our body once we have completed physical activity.

If we use the free version, we will have access to measurement of distance, time, slope, caloriess ... And other elements that make this application even more interesting are the possibilities it offers to keep track of the evolution of your friends, as well as a synchronization with your social networks to share your achievements.

It is compatible with a large number of devices prepared for monitor heart rhythm (not only activity wristbands), and allows you to establish your own goals and go checking your evolution. Another very interesting thing is that it allows you to compare your results with those of other people by setting some parameters. And it comes with included map!

RUNKEEPER:

The most striking aspect of this application could be that its way of monitoring the activity is highly complete due to the help of software from other companies specialized in this field (for example, Garmin). The free version offers you the possibility to create your own workouts, functionality that in other developers is only available in the Premium version.

Like the rest of Apps that you will discover in this article, it is highly oriented to the social aspect, allowing you to even take pictures of your sessions. It is designed for running, and the free version takes data of the distance traveled, pace and speed, commenting by voice all your progress.

ENDOMONDO

This application offers very interesting features. First, is designed for more than 40 different sports, among which are running and cycling. What is it for? To monitor all our activities: route, pulsations, duration, slope ... It is compatible with various smart bands, and we can find all this in the free version.

Another interesting thing about this application is that it is a social network. You can be in touch with your friends, show your progress and receive comments about your activity, as well as comment on what your friends do. It is an important source of motivation!

runtastic

We are facing an application with similar functionalities to the previous ones, but with some peculiarity. Again, thanks to its operation with GPS, it will allow us to observe the data about the route we have traveled, the distance, the time, the rhythm, the speed, the heart rate, the unevenness ...

Of course, it will allow us to share all our activity with our friends since it works as a social network, and we can also send messages and receive them ... Even live. One of the most interesting aspects of this App is the community that it has created and the contents that it generates and shares through the application.

GEAR CALCULATOR

Interesting and complete application for triathletes, road, MTB, BMX and cyclo-cross cyclists.

With the Gear Calculator application we can customize the gears of our bicycle and know what will be the advance by pedaling that we will have from the wheel size, connecting rod length and the chosen development. When it comes to making the list of plates and pinions that we want to have on our bike, Gear Calculator will allow us to know all the data of each of the gears well, so we can choose well which pinions and plates to use.

Once the data of the wheel type, the connecting rod length and the gears are entered, we will be able to know the speed at which we will move according to the chosen cadence.

WIKILOC

One of the most complete and used applications for the creation of routes. It has millions of outdoor routes around the world. It has a wide variety of activities including cycling, mountain biking, running, swimming, kayaking and so on up to more than 45 different ones.

Wikiloc not only allows to record the routes outdoors on a map, but also the user can add point of interest and insert photos of their route to be able to share it with other users of the application.

Transform your mobile into a GPS navigator. You can use your mobile to guide you on any route as if it were a GPS navigator with a heading indicator and sound alerts to warn you if you leave the route.

Live Tracking Share your activity with who you decide and you can see where you are while you are traveling.

1RM

Calculate your maximum repetition through the most known formulas.

Your 1RM is the specific resistance that allows you to perform only one repetition in an exercise. Determine your strength and your power at a specific moment.

Knowing your 1RM will help you to know the amount of weight you can lift for a given number of repetitions, it can also serve to check evolutions between measurements, knowing if the training is being effective or not and can quantify the load of this of the number of maximum repetitions.

To calculate your 1RM you need to know how much weight you can lift and how many repetitions you can do in a particular exercise, it is recommended to perform the calculation with less than 12 repetitions, since from there the calculations become less reliable.

It is also interesting for training planning, since you will know exactly what weight to work with based on the% 1RM.

IM TRACKER

Application that allows you to consult the results and track any test of the IM and IM circuit 70.3

IM Tracker is the official App of the Ironman circuit, which will allow us to consult the results of all the 70.3 and Ironman distance tests.

On the one hand it allows us to follow live any triathlete, PRO or age group that is competing anywhere in the world within the Ironman events. It also offers us the possibility of visualizing on a map the place where the triathlete we want to follow ...

Once the test is finished, we can find all the results of each one of the participants and visualize their partial times and positions in each of the segments, the classification in the final general and in their respective age group.

It also allows each participant to link their social networks, and be able to post the results live while competing to be followed by their friends in their RRSS.

In addition to these, there are others such as those developed by Nike and Adidas, that do not require specific equipment to use them. Another interesting option is the applications that use fun as motivation, that is, they turn sports into a game (Zombies, run!).

In short, since they are used for the same, the vast majority of market applications offer us a similar performance, with some elements unique to each developer that will be decisive due to the preferences of each athlete.

Have you tried any of the mentioned applications? If yes, we would love to know your experience. If you have used one that does not appear on the list, we also want to know why you chose it and what result it has given you. And if you have never used any, do you plan to do it after knowing everything they can do for you?
