The gold was for the Ukrainian Andry Glushenko and the silver for András Heczey. In this competition the Spanish were also David Henestrosa (12º), and Antonio Perez (18th). For his part in the women's competition Clara Arribas it was 12ª and Amaya Bernal 24 ª.
In the women's elite competition Australia tripled with Emma Carney, Jackie Gallaguer y Michellie Jones. The Spanish Maribel Blanco was 23ª
In the men's race there was a real show with a luxury podium, with victory for Chris Mccormack (AUS) - ITU and IM world champion -, second was Hamish Carter (NZL) - Olympic champion in Athens - and third the four-time ITU world champion Simon Lessing (GBR).
Also note that in this competition 6 triathletes came down from 30 'in the final 10k. Obviously in triathlon the distances are not homologated, many times we look at the current brands but 18 years ago is also below the 30 'in the walking segment
