The ITU Executive Board has approved the preventive measures to fight COVID-19 in a document sent to the organizers of the events.
These guidelines are designed to help organizers efficiently and effectively deal with the “new normal” of COVID-19.
The recommendations have been prepared by the sports department together with the technical, medical, athletes and coaches committee, as well as the WHO recommendations for social gatherings.

During the evolution of the COVID-19 outbreak, the IOC and the World Health Organization have reported that effective protection of the health and safety of athletes should remain a priority.
Event organizers must ensure that all athletes are covered by adequate measures to protect their health and that they have access to immediate medical attention while participating in the competition.
The organizers will have to take preventive measures to stop transmission infection and reduce the risk of infection.
To do this they must ensure that any athlete or participant who needs immediate medical attention, has access to medical facilities.
Among others, the recommendations include the observation, in the events, of the health of the participants taking the body temperature.
In the future, each aspect of the competitions will be reviewed taking into account the social distance in:
Anyone, including athletes, coaches, technical officials, media or spectators, who is unwell (i.e. fever, cough) will have to stay home and stay away from the event.
For symptoms of acute respiratory illness before, during, or after the trip, athletes are encouraged to seek medical attention and to share the travel history with their doctor.
Although these tips have been developed using the best information available, they are only intended to be used as guidance, since their application will depend on the current restrictions of the local authorities in force where the event takes place.
