Trek Bicycle, the world's leading brand in bicycle technology and innovation, has officially presented the new model Madone top of the range of 2011 in the prologue stage of the Tour de France. The imposing Madone 6 Series SSL was the protagonist of the afternoon. It is made with a new and revolutionary type of carbon called OCLV HexSL that makes it a new reference for bicycles with carbon frames. It has lighter road frame manufactured so far by the company 9 times winner of the Tour de France.
For 2011 we have perfected the design and our manufacturing process even more. The result is such a light frame that we decided to re-use our SSL designation reserved exclusively for bicycles that offer outstanding performance and lightness. "
The key to the new Madone 6 Series SSL is Trek's latest discovery in the field of carbon fiber, the OCLV HexSL. "The OCLV HexSL is a material that completely changes the rules of the game," said Trek road products engineer Chris Pomering. "Before culminating the production of this material we had to use two or even three different layers of carbon to achieve the same level of robustness and performance that we achieved with a single layer of OCLV HexSL."
Although Trek is the first cycling company to use the technological advantages of OCLV HexSL carbon, it is unlikely that other bike manufacturers will try it any time soon. The US Government has classified untreated HexSL fiber as an aerospace material, therefore its transport beyond the borders of NATO countries is illegal.
