The Portuguese Pedro Gomes and the German Katja Konschak, champions of the Half ICAN Marbella 2012
In the reign of the Half ICAN, over a distance of 1,9 km. of swimming, 90 km. of cycling and 21 km. of running race, the final triumph was for the Portuguese Pedro Gomes, with a final time of 4 hours, 17 minutes and 36 seconds.
The Portuguese triathlete took advantage of the descent of Alto de Ojén to distance himself from the Spaniard Joan Monguillot, who was second despite suffering a fall with the bike en esa persecución, llegando a poco más de un minuto de diferencia, 4h 18´ 52”. In women, Katja Konschak's German took advantage of the Spanish's stomach problems Saleta Castro to overtake him in the final section of the race on foot and win the race with a time of 4h 17'36 ”. An athlete who just a few months ago had given birth to her second child. Meanwhile, the Galician Castro came second with a time of 4h 18` 52, ahead of the Scottish Eleanor Haresing, with 4h 55` 39 ”.
ICAN 62 was also held, over a distance of 1,9 km of swimming, 50 of cycling and 10 of running. A test where there was a double Spanish color, with the victory in men for Adrián Ruano (2h 30` 23 ”), followed by the Raso brothers, Bruno and Victoriano, who invested a time of 2h 32´ 16” and 2h 34´ 25 ", respectively.
In women, the triumph was for local triathlete Sonia Vázquez, with a final time of 3h 13´ 02. Second was her teammate Jenny Moetfindt, with 3h 15´ 42 ”, and Julia Robertson, with 3h 23´ 01.
More than 860 triathletes managed to complete one of the two routes (Half ICAN and ICAN 62), of the nearly 900 who finally took the start, in an intense day of first level triathlon through the streets of Marbella. Not even the wind that blew strongly at some moments of the day or the threat of rain discouraged the hundreds of triathletes and fans who from early in the morning filled the finish and transition area of Puerto Banús, as well as the Paseo Marítimo de Marbella or the ascent to Ojén.
