Once again, Madrid will host one of the major events in international triathlon, the World Series, where this year it will also be the last qualifying event to achieve the coveted entry to the Olympics 2012.
Three Spanish triathletes have already secured their place to date: Javier Gómez Noya, Mario Mola and Ainhoa Murua, the latter two will compete this weekend in the Spanish capital.
Despite the last-minute withdrawal of the favorite, Javier Gómez Noya, due to the flu, the Casa de Campo in Madrid will be a hive of activity throughout the weekend, with triathletes, fans, and the general public all hoping for Jose Miguel Pérez's success. Ivan RañaZuriñe Rodríguez and Marina Damlaimcourt from Madrid hope to secure the points needed to qualify for London 2012. Other triathletes who will be on the starting line include... Fernando Alarza, Marta Jiménez, Carolina Routier and Anna Godoy
We are sure that the strength with which triathlon is lived in the Community of Madrid, where its neighbors year after year go out to the streets to cheer these triathletes with their voices, along with the fans of other communities that will visit this weekend the city and the hundreds of Galicians who will come in buses with the aim of supporting Iván Raña, will bring the best of luck to these young triathletes who will compete in search of achieving “their Olympic dream”.
In addition, this year Televisión Española will have a luxury guest. Madrid's Ana Burgos, twice Olympian, will be in charge of broadcasting part of these great events that will be held this weekend at the Casa de Campo in Madrid.
But this is not all, behind “the bandolinas” we will be able to see one more year hundreds of “TriVolunteers”, belonging to the program developed by the Madrilenian Triathlon Federation, working to make this event a reality, a role developed altruistically by these people with the sole objective of helping the athlete to achieve their goals.
It has been 10 years since the International Federation entrusted this project to the Madrid Triathlon Federation for the development of international events in Madrid, where year after year they come showing their high degree of involvement and commitment to this international event, being a work worthy of chose.
This weekend, Madrid will be the epicenter of the International Triathlon.
