10 tips on sun protection

In summer we forget how important it is to protect our skin in long-term competitions such as Triathlon.

 

 

La AEMPS (Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products) has published a series of 10 tips to learn more about sun protection

 

1º The Excessive sun exposure it is a major health hazard. Do not stay in the sun for a long time even if you use a sunscreen product. Keep in mind that no sunscreen offers total protection against the risks derived from ultraviolet UV radiation.

 

2º Avoid sun exposure between 12 and 16 hours. Try not to fall asleep in the sun. Extend protective measures in outdoor activities.

 

3º No expose children under the age of 3 to the sun. Protect them with clothing, hats, glasses and high-index sunscreens, special for children and waterproof. Have them drink water frequently.

 

4º Use a sunscreen that protects against the UVB radiation (causing sunburn) and UVA (Main responsible for premature aging of the skin). These two types of radiation also affect the immune system and contribute to the risk of skin cancer.

 

5º Choose a suitable sunscreen for each type of skin or area of ​​the body (cream, spray, milk, gel), taking into account the phototype, the age and the circumstances of the exposure. Use a higher factor sunscreen (FPS) in the first solar exposures.

 

6º Apply the product generously evenly on dry skin, half an hour before sun exposure and repeat the application every 2 hours and after perspiring, bathing or drying. Do not use sunscreens that have been open since the previous year.

 

7 º Extreme caution in the most sensitive body parts to the sun: face, neck, bald head, shoulders, neckline, ears, hands and insteps. The protection of the lips should be done with pencils or light bars and the hair with specific products.

 

8 º Use sunscreen even on cloudy days. UV radiation passes through clouds and is reflected in water, sand, grass and snow.

9 º Also protect the skin with clothes (t-shirts, pants), head with brimmed hats and eyes with sunglasses that absorb 100% of UV radiation.

10th Watch for any change in the color, shape or size of freckles or moles. Consult the specialist
