Training and the Coronavirus

We give you some guidelines to continue training

Given the situation created by the Coronavirus In which every day we are attending cancellations and postponements of tests, coaches and athletes generate a problem for us: What do we do? How do we train? Do we continue with the routine or do we modify it? Do we maintain the objectives with the new "hypothetical" dates ?.

Until a few days ago, that was the main "problem" beyond health, which is logically the most important, but today the situation has changed with the cclosure of public sports facilities and some private ones vital for a triathlete such as pools and Gyms

Our collaborators Israel Pinto and Mario Castellanos, clarify these doubts for us.

With this panorama, as coaches we are faced with a great problem about how to manage the schedules of our athletes.

Do I keep my peak in shape? Do I return to a "preseason"? Do I leave you a few days of relaxation to adapt to the new situation?

Everything has its pros and cons and there is nothing right or wrong, they are all alternatives.

If you want to keep your peak shape, how are you going to do it?

Since we do not know how long this situation will last, they tell us about 15 days at least, but it is not a sure thing.

The serious problem is that the athlete could end up "burned" from not competing with the bib, even if we simulate tests, and the peak of form you cannot keep indefinitely, although if you are in good physical condition, in addition to the problem of training facilities especially logically the pool.

In favor, this, that if this happens soon, your athlete would be ready to continue.

Go back to a basic mesocycle?

In this type of training, weak points such as strength, technique, etc. are worked on.

But .. How do you do with closed gyms?

In the event that the athlete had a good way of training strength, it would be the one that I would opt for, but we would find the opposite problem to that of keeping the peak in shape, if everything returns quickly to normal the athlete is not competitive .

But the point in favor that if the situation is delayed as it seems, you have improved points of an athlete who sometimes does not work as much for the short time between the seasons.

2 weeks free?

I think the option of leaving the athlete for one or two weeks to settle down is not negotiable.

Athletes and coaches we are people and faced with a new stressful situation like this that generates doubts, you have to take a few days off and do sports with a little less stress.

Enjoy and think while doing a roller session with a platform like Bkool It is something that can help you disconnect and organize ideas.

Considerations to take into account

To all, whatever is done as a coach or athlete, we must take into account considerations, especially at the health and hygiene level, with the recommendations they are giving us.

  • If we feel bad, do not train or do something very smooth. And in that case never train in a group, however small it may be.
  • Always do indoor training.
  • The intensity should be moderate, to strengthen our immune system and not weaken it.
  • The room well ventilated.
  • Have good hydration.
  • Hand washing as soon as you finish training, logically a better shower. And while training do not touch eyes, nose etc ...
