The favorites meet the forecast in Gijón

The athletes of the Cidade de Lugo-Fluvial Triathlon club Gustavo Rodríguez and Beatriz Tenreiro prevailed in the Duathlon "Villa de Gijón, Memorial Daniel Guzmán", which was held on Friday morning in the vicinity of the Poniente de Gijón beach with a participation close to 200 athletes. There were no surprises, since the two winners started with the band of favorites and fulfilled the forecasts.

The test was carried out in the sprint modality, that is, 5 kilometers of running, 20 by bicycle and 2,5 again of running, and the first to take the start were the athletes of the elite category, both male and female. as female, on a fairly cool morning and in which a light drizzle fell during some moments of the test. Beatriz Tenreiro asserted her status as favorite and won with a time of 1 hour, 6 minutes and 38 seconds followed by Sonia Juliá (Igualada) with 1.07.05, Verónica Montes (Fogar) in 1.07.08, Elena Barlabe (Igualada) in 1.07.34 and Beatriz Álvarez (Civil Academy-El Musel) in 1.09.38 and the first Asturian in the category. In the men's event, Gustavo Rodríguez prevailed with complete authority, since he took almost two minutes from the second classified, Alberto González (Valdemoro), since the winner used 53 minutes and 22 seconds to complete the test by 55.13 from the second classified.

In third position finished the Asturian Emilio Suárez (Castrillón), who entered just two seconds behind González, after starring in a beautiful duel throughout the entire race, while fourth was Francisco González (Diablillos Rivas) in 55.49, and fifth Gustavo Platas (City of Lugo-Fluvial) in 58.11.

In the team classification, the organizing club of the Academia Civil-El Musel event won the women's category and Cidade de Lugo-Fluvial in the men's category.

This test was a qualifying event for the Spanish Duathlon Championship that will be held on May 5 and 6 in the Murcian town of Águilas, which hosts this competition after Segovia resigned from organizing it, when it was the city that had been granted at first. This resignation at the last minute has been about to mean the cancellation of the Spanish Championship, but finally Águilas decided to organize it, although not on the initially scheduled dates, which is going to cause some damage, since now it will coincide with other tests in different points of Spain. In addition to the elite competition there were classifications in age groups.
