The Duathlon of Orihuela by Felipe Gutiérrez

Spanish Duathlon Long Distance Championship,  I like it, I do not like it, I like it, I do not like it ...

 

 

The truth is that just finished the test I could only think if I really liked the test or not ... There are several reasons to say that I loved it and others to say that I did not like it. But first I want to make it clear that the test was true to his slogan of "people's winds".

Wind all or more and suffering as much in race as in bike most of the most, it was clearly fulfilled the one of the intense wind. What a bad time some people had!

The victories were for two duathletes who were very strong. Departure Roger Roca tried to "break" the race and put all the elites in line, although Raúl Amatrain (1º 3: 23: 02) obviously was not going to allow it and crossed the finish line in first position proclaiming itself the Spanish champion of the modality.

Behind a portentous Luis Vila (2 º 3: 23: 05) struggled to cut the seconds that Raul took him and achieved thanks to the best partial finish "almost" catching the champion in the final meters. Only 3 seconds was the difference between the two.

 

The position of third box of the podium was for the Balearic Juan Bautista Nadal (3º 3: 27: 05), duathlete with a great level and that was perhaps the surprise of these medals.

A total of 353 duathletes between elite and age groups entered the goal, although there were a good number of retirees and not presented, the test was hard from the first moment of the arrival of all Torremendo.

 

 

In women, total domain of Margarita Garcia Cañellas (1º 3: 45: 47) was the best since the initial race, was dominating the 16 km of the first segment and absolute dominance in the bike to enter the finish line with more than eight minutes ahead of the Venezuelan Joselyn Abreu (2ª 3: 54: 17) who currently lives in Pontevedra where he trains at the Technification Center and follows a great progression in order to be a figure of international stature. It was 2ª of the test although logically it did not occupy a place in the podium of the championship of Spain.

 

 

In third place and silver medal in the Championship of Spain for the Catalan of Calella Anna Rovira (3º 3: 56: 49) ahead of Gurutze Frades (4º 04: 00: 49) and that got the bronze of the championship.

By teams was the Ecosport Triathlon Alcobendas the winner in the female event and the Saltoki Trikideak in the male

When writing this chronicle we do not yet have the results of the paratriathletes.

To finish just commenting that I liked watching the duathletes fight the wind both on the bike and in the race on foot and especially on that hard and undulating route around Torremendo, it was simply spectacular and also the work of the organizing group , that I LIKED.

But there is always a but I DID NOT LIKE the design of the walking path very worthy for a Cros Duathlon or for a Trail or adventure test, but not for a duathlon where a very high one should be on hard surface, cement, road ... we are going according to the regulations of what should be a duathlon.

Many were the disgruntled, last year there were already, but it is clear that they repeated and that they increased the number of registrations.

I'm probably wrong, but I'm sure if Torremendo "tripite" next year, I'm not clear that there are more organizers, surely the number of participants will rise.

Is this what we want? ... Well, we'll see each other in the 2016 ...
