Challenge Salou, a guarantee of success

The next 28 in May will be held a new edition of the Challenge Salou, one of the tests with the highest national and international level of the Spanish calendar.

The Catalan city of Salou will house on Sunday 28 of May the Challenge Salou, a proven test of the national calendar, with 19.000 € of cash prizes and where the participation of more than 1.000 triathletes is expected.

In the 2017 edition the victory was for the British David McNamee with a time of 3: 26: 04. McNamee He came from being 3rd in the Ironman in South Africa and in October he got third place in the world championship. Hawaii Ironman. Second in Salou was the Valencian Emilio Aguayo in his international debut in medium distance. Months later it would be proclaimed runner-up of Spain of Long Distance. Third in goal was the South African James Cunnama who has been winner and several times podium in Embrunman and winner of the Roth Challenge in 2012. A truly luxurious podium! With two of the best medium and long distance triathletes in the world ... and a promise that will also be fighting with the best.

As regards the women's competition, the victory was for the Catalan Sara Loehr with a time of 3: 59: 01, who based his victory thanks to a great partial on foot where he rode the 4 'he had lost in the cycling segment. The second position was for Nikki Bartlett with 4: 00: 42 and the third one for Erika Csomor with a time of 4: 05: 20.

Courses

The Challenge Salou is held in the distance Half, 1900m of swimming in the Mediterranean Sea, 90km of cycling divided in 4 turns to a very fast circuit, completely flat to finish with the half marathon, 21,1km of race on foot.

Anti-water measures

The organization of the Challenge Salou works to control that there is no drafting in the cycling segment and for this it puts several means:

  • Outputs separated by batches of 100 to 150 participants
  • Judges on a motorcycle
  • Judges at fixed points
  • System of fixed and mobile cameras for de-ratings after the subsequent analysis

Relays

Relay participation can be in male, female or mixed teams of 2 or 3 components. Each team will have a hat, a chip and a bib. The witness is given giving the number and the chip to the partner. From the start of the competition to crossing the finish line, the chip must be carried by the member of the team that is competing; always in the ankle, so the relay is passed handing the chip to the partner.
