Cascais Triathlon becomes Ironman 70.3 Cascais Portugal

IRONMAN today announced the joining of the Ironman 70.3® Cascais Portugal triathlon to the Ironman family. The race will be held on September 3, 2017.

The test that until now was called Cascais Triathlon  it will be called Ironman 70.3 Cascais Portugal

The place where the race will be held is in Cascais, just west of the capital of Lisbon - an area known for its places of interest. The small and old fishing village of Cascais is now a bustling seaside town and was once the preferred summer residence of the royal family and nobility of Portugal.

 "We are delighted to be able to offer our athletes an Ironman 70.3 event in Portugal, this wonderful place offers all the ingredients for a memorable experience at IRONMAN 70.3 "said Hans-Peter Zurbruegg, CEO of IRONMAN Europe, Middle East and Africa. 

The athletes will begin their career with a one-lap 1,9km swim with the backdrop of Fortaleza da Cidadela, the most spectacular bay in Portugal.

Departing from Cascais, the 90,1km single-lap bike course passes by the ocean, and through the Aldea de Oeiras. The cycling sector also covers the impressive natural landscape in the forests of Sintra, to return along the Guincho beach to the town of Cascais.

 The course of the 21,1km two laps race will lead the athletes along the seafront and to Estoril and S. Pedro, where the trialetas will be able to enjoy the sea breeze that will help them to fight the heat.

 With its mild climate and 3.000 hours of sunshine per year, Portugal has always been the perfect destination for family vacations. Cascais, with over 650 years of history, is only 20 minutes by car from the Lisbon International Airport and is located between Sintra (UNESCO World Heritage) and Oeiras.

 IRONMAN 70.3 Cascais Portugal will offer $ 15,000 in prizes for professionals and 50 qualifying slots by age groups for the 70.3 Ironman 2018 World Championship
