Interview with Carles Tur, coach of Miquel Blanchart, Ivet Farriols, Carlos López. And Anna Rovira

We continue with the third episode of the special that we are dedicating to some of the coaches of the best Spanish triathletes

Today we will know a little better Carles Tur, the person in charge of the preparation of the LD Spain Champion (Carlos López), of the runner-up (Ivet Farriols), from PRO Kona Finisher Miquel Blanchart and of the Top10 in the Ironman of Nice and Barcelona Anna Rovira

Hi Carles, how are you? A pleasure to have you in this interview, within the special coaches. How were your beginnings as a coach?

At the 2003 I was studying a degree in physical activity and sport sciences, some friends asked me to help them with the planning, so those were my beginnings in the world of triathlon.

Where do you work at the moment?

Currently I work focused on my advisory service (www.carles.tur.com), I train and advise athletes of different levels. Until recently I combined my company with a position as a physical trainer at the CAR in Cant Cugat del Vallés, but I decided to leave it and focus on my athletes, since apart from work, I am doing third university studies (degree in nutrition) and I was very tired at the end of the day.

Who are your references as coaches in your beginnings? And currently, would you highlight a particular partner with whom you work?

The first coach I had was Vicente Yern, before my beginnings in triathlon I dedicated myself to cycling for 6 years and he was the one who taught me the basics of training and especially to be a person, unfortunately Vicente died in the 2005 year but still many people We remember for the great person he was.

The second was Javi Bonet, he was my first triathlon coach and he showed me the triathlon bases. His time at Blume was very enriching, as well as his past as a swimmer, today we continue with great communication and sharing many knowledge.

The third coach that I also have a great appreciation is Dr. Carlos González Haro, a student of science and physiology. Having spent a year with him in the laboratory carrying out my final project of studies of CAFE, as well as all the lessons I learned every day, I consider them of great value in my baggage of knowledge.

Regarding other sports; swimming, athletics, or cycling I have also learned very interesting aspects that I have applied to triathlon. Some of them have been: Luis Rodríguez in swimming, Toni Roig in athletics or David Monserrat in cycling.

I would like to thank all of them for their enriching contribution and apologize in case someone left me.

Carles Tur, coach

Who are the main triathletes you work with? (At the elite level)

At the elite level, Miquel Blanchart, Carlos López, Ivet Farriols and Anna Rovira

Could you highlight some special feature of them?

With Carlos and Miquel they are the two triathlon professionals that have been with me the longest, with Carlos we will start the fourth season together and with Miquel the third.

Miquel Blanchart: Seriousness and Spartan discipline at the time of training, great person and ability to suffer up to the last meter in each race that disputes, you have very clear ideas and I know that soon or soon you will get a great result.

Carlos Lopez: Passion for triathlon and blind faith in its possibilities, a positivism in the good and bad times, as well as a level of sacrifice worth mentioning (father of a family and working hours of 8 hours).

Regarding the girls I have been with them a lot less time, with Ivet since July of this year and with Anna we started in November.

Ivet Farriols: great competitor, knows how to raise your capacity for suffering and adapt to career circumstances. Great worker who does not object when executing the workouts. Looking to the 2016 I think it will continue to grow as a triathlete.

Anna Rovira: triathlete eager to make great progress in the world of triathlon, very orderly with training and disciplined. The sensations so far with Anna are very good. We both hope to be able to make small qualitative leaps.

By way of conclusion the 4; Ivet, Anna, Carlos and Miquel, are very disciplined triathletes and with very clear ideas, beyond their quality as an athlete I would emphasize that it is a real pleasure to be able to work with them, since the communication is really very fluid and the confidence for both parts is blind.

What are your main goals as a coach for this 2016?

For all my athletes who enjoy sports, are free of injuries and achieve the goals set for this season.

On a personal level, I continue to train both at a theoretical level and at a practical level. This season I returned to compete in triathlon, I think I can provide an enriching point of view to the theoretical knowledge you can learn by reading a paper.

Can you name us some tips for those who start working as trainers?

That they try to form the best possible, to read constantly and with spirit to learn, to update itself is a fundamental aspect for any professional. On the other hand, that they are passionate about the profession, from the outside it seems a very simple job but the truth is it requires a lot of personalized attention, in the end if you are passionate about what you do you can dedicate many hours and effort in your profession.

And advice for people who start in the practice of triathlon?

That they do not hurry and burn stages with the long distance, that they carry out a test of effort annually, that they carry out trainings and competitions according to their physical level. In case of doubt, let them be advised by qualified professionals and above all enjoy this magnificent sport.
