Flora Duffy gets her first Cozumel triathlon world title

166 points separated Duffy from Jorgensen who finished second in the race.

Victory and first world title for Flora Duffy in the Grand Final of the World Series played in Cozumel (Mexico), while the Spanish Carolina Routier has been classified in 27ª position.

The Spanish Carolina Rouiter has stood out again in this sector, completing the 1,5 km of swimming in fifth position. A segment commanded by the British Jessica Learmonth and Lucy Hall. After passing through the T1, Hall and Learmonth have escaped in the front along with Flora Duffy.

All three, as in the Leeds round, have remained in the lead throughout the entire journey. While Rouiter has joined the Americans Sarah True and Gwen Jorgensen in a chasing trio that has subsequently merged with another group to form a block of 17. The leaders have done their best, imposing a high pace to achieve an income of more than a minute.

Duffy, with the world title at stake, took the T2 to then go solo in the first meters of the race on foot. The Triathlete of Bermuda has maintained a very high level in this section, with Jorgensen coming out ahead, overtaking rivals such as Learmonth or Hall, but unable to overcome the distances during these four laps of the race. Completed the final km 10, Flora Duffy has achieved the victory in the Grand Final of Cozumel, which in turn has meant the achievement of the title of world champion 2016.

Gwen Jorgensen got the second place and in a thrilling final sprint between the British Helen Jenkins and the Australian Charlotte Mcshane, luck has fallen on the side of the latter, hanging the bronze medal.

Ranking

While the podium of the Columbia Threadneedle ranking of the World Series has been headed by Flora Duffy with 4691 points, followed by Jorgensen in second place with 4435 and with Japan Ai Ueda He has climbed until the third postpone after qualifying in fifth place in the Cozumel test.

For its part, Miriam Casillas has had to retire in the final section of the cycling sector and Carolina Routier has maintained a good level, facing the last third 14ª. However, the harsh weather conditions, added to the heavy wear made by the trio of Banyoles, made it lose bellows, concluding in a worked 27ª position.
