Fran Sanz, a transplanted triathlete, wins the KM0 Triathlon
Fran Sanz is the youngest transplant athlete to complete a long distance triathlon in the country with 27 years.
The past 27 of September Francisco Sanz Díaz fulfilled his great challenge by completing the Triathlon Madrid KM0, the first Long Distance Triathlon in the Community of Madrid, with an official 12 time: 14: 10 staying in the 137 place.
Transplant + Sport = Life
Fran Sanz showed that with effort, dedication and thanks to sport, there is life after a transplant. The Long Distance Triathlon, is the most demanding Triathlon. It consists of 3,86 km of swimming, 180 km of cycling and 42,2 km of running on foot (marathon). The race has a time limit of 17 hours and an average time of 12 hours. In 2005 he was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease and had to undergo hemodialysis. Still sick he continued practicing sports and participated in duathlons and popular races when the energy allowed him.
In June 2008 his life changed and he underwent a kidney transplant. He is currently dedicated to sports activity and fights every day to be grateful for this second chance at life. She is part of the Spain Sport & Transplant Association that fights to show that there is life after transplantation and that thanks to sport the quality of life can be improved. Together with his teammates from Tri-Galapar, he has conquered several triathlons in the Community of Madrid and in April 2014 he participated in the Elche Triathlon.
The personality of the Madrid KM0 Triathlon had a great history throughout its journey as well as the technical hardness: the Riosequillo reservoir of Buitrago del Lozoya, Miraflores de la Sierra, Rascafría, Cotos, Navacerrada, Guadarrama, el Escorial, until the entrance to the city by Country House and Madrid River with large differences in level, to finish at the finish line located in the very heart of Madrid, the famous KM0 of Puerta del Sol - radial origin of Spanish roads.
Triathlon Madrid KM0 had the collaboration and support of the Community of Madrid, the City Council and the Madrid Triathlon Federation.
