Gurutze Frades: "The dream of Hawaii 2016, next stop Türkiye"

Gurutze will participate in the Turkish Ironman 70.3 this weekend

The past 30 of August, in the French town of Vichy, Gurutze Frandes got one of the best wins of his professional career by winning the IRONMAN Vichy, becoming the first Spanish to win an IM outside of Spain.

With the victory, Gurutze added 2000 valuable KPR points for the qualification for the IM World Cup in Hawaii, which caused that during the next months Guru decided to qualify for "Mecca" of the world triathlon.

- Several weeks have passed since your victory in Vichy IM. How was the competition? How did you feel?

Since swimming I was in front positions. By bike there were several changes of positions but I was quite consistent. The differences in T2 were hopeful. With the cold head I marked my rhythm in very hard conditions because of the heat. The rivals gave way and I managed to take the Ironman.

It was indescribable. He had the whole season and all summer training very hard and it is gratifying that things go well. For me and for those around me.

- I know it is very complicated, for the girls even more so since only 35 are classified ... and if we count that the top10 of Kona 2015 has many points ... there are very few places for the PROS, but after the victory ... 2000 KPR points, and the "must" question Are you going to fight for Kona 2016?

My approach to go to Hawaii was to try to give the level that these tests require and when I thought I was ready I went to the 100%. With the points of Vichy I have been very face. It is difficult but you have to try. It is a risky bet since it supposes an important economic effort. But Hawaii is the best and you have to try to be there.

- What are your next competitions?

The October 25 will compete in the 70.3 of Turkey. 500 test points that also serves as part of my preparation. I think the circuits are going well and the goal is to add to the KPR.

- And after Turkey ... Will you close the year with some more Ironman?

The next day of the Turkish 70.3 flight destination to Malaysia. I will participate in the November 14 in the Ironman.

- Malaysia is one of the toughest IMs for heat and humidity ... Have you prepared this test in any special way?

I've been competing since February and the goal is to try to reach the best level I've given this season. I travel with 3 weeks in advance to try to acclimatize as best I can to the harsh conditions of the competition.

Euskadi has arrived in the fall and preparing an Ironman of these characteristics is complicated here, so we thought that doing the last important workouts in the same situations that I will find in the race is interesting.

- Thank you very much for the interview Gurutze, we wish you the best in these two competitions and I hope you come back from Malaysia with a passport to Kona. Many cheers!
