Gómez Noya: "The Brownlees are very difficult to beat, although of course they are not unbeatable"

Javier got a fourth place yesterday, getting the best partial race on foot.

Despite not having been on the podium in his debut in the 2016 World Series, Javier Gómez Noya is more is satisfied with his result, 4º placed with the best part time in the walking phase.

The key to the outcome was in the first kilometers of the uphill cycling phase when they took advantage Alistair Brownlee, Aaron Royle and Aurelien Raphael while Gómez Noya still had not tightened his shoes after getting on the bike at the same time as them. A chasing trio was formed with the youngest of the Brownlees and Richard Varga until the Briton started alone, something that his brother could see from the front who loosened to tow him in the lead.

Javier stayed with the Slovak chasing a few seconds for several kilometers but the gap widened, hence he decided to wait for the large group that is forming behind. In this there was no intention of hunting and came to the transition in the center of Leeds with two minutes of disadvantage.

In the third phase, the Olympic champion quickly took advantage, easily leaving his brother and the other two behind. For his part, Gómez Noya starred in a great pedestrian phase clearly ahead of the rest and catching at kilometer 8 the worst runner of the four leading, the French Raphael: "I am very happy despite having stayed with the Brownlees by bike. It was sung that they were going to come out full and I was comfortable with them in the water. But that initial uphill bike without having tightened my shoes has left me without options. They have organized in front and I have chosen to wait to give everything on foot. I was not counting on having those good feelings as I am still unprepared to run so fast and I also come from a busy week, plus the hustle and bustle of the Princess of Asturias Award.

There are two months left for the Olympic Games, with several triathlons to see improvement. The Brownlee can not but congratulate them because it has gone all round at home. Their quality and ambition are maximum and when they have no problems are very difficult to overcome although of course not unbeatable."

Upcoming competitions

Until the next appointment of the World Series, on Saturday July 2 in Stockholm in Olympic Distance, Javier will return to Lugo, the place chosen to concentrate for the Olympics. There it enjoys tranquility, good facilities and roads of all kinds to be able to train in the best conditions. He also has the help of several elite athletes and triathletes who serve as a stimulus for the tough sessions that an Olympic Gold candidate has to undergo.
