The Spanish Triathlon Federation received in Moscow the award as Best European Federation of the Year 2017 awarded by the European Triathlon Union (ETU).

The award was collected by José Hidalgo, President FETRI, at the gala with which the Conference of Presidents ETU was closed and which brought together 36 national federations with a tight work program to draw the future lines of continental triathlon. In the speech of thanks, Hidalgo emphasized that it is an award "of all the Spanish Triathlon" and highlighted the "will of Spain to collaborate with generosity in the development of our sport as has already been done with Ibero-American countries, or we are doing with Maghreb countries nowadays".

The President of the ITU, Marisol Casado; Enrique Quesada, member of the ITU; Alicia García, Secretary General of FETRI, and Jorge García, Director of Competitions, accompanied Hidalgo in the reception of the award.

After hours of work in which strategies of future and development were tackled as a priority, José Hidalgo stood out in the Gala as president of the Best European Federation of the Year 2017, that "Spain has always had a plan based on four axes: a shared and unified project; a leadership position based on international competitions; invest in knowledge to share later; and leadership to innovate and be the spearhead of Spanish sport ". With these premises and believing "in the shared projects", on behalf of the Spanish Triathlon Federation he highlighted the willingness "to collaborate with the ETU, or with any European friendly country".

Conference of Presidents

The Conference of Presidents of the European Triathlon Union held before the ETU Gala approved the strategic plan for global action in Europe for the next few years and that includes planning and strategies until after the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020. Likewise, the situation of the ETU was analyzed and development lines were drawn that fundamentally affect the leadership and innovation position to be faced by the institution.

Within the confidence generated by the Spanish Triathlon Federation in the European group, it is worth noting that Madrid was designated as the venue at the end of the year of one of the two 2 level ITU Officers courses that will take place shortly.
