We present what are, in our opinion, the 6 medium distance triathlons hardest in Spain

 

Given the characteristics of the Spanish spelling, we are sure to find other triathlons that we could include in the list, so we invite our readers to give us their opinions on which are, in their opinion, the toughest medium-distance triathlons in Spain.

In the following article we present what we think are the 6 medium distance triathlons hardest in Spain, three of them will be deputized in Madrid (KM0, Ecotrimad and Bola del mundo), two in Andalusia (Sierra Nevada and Titán de Cádiz) and one in the Canary Islands (70.3 in Lanzarote).

 

DX2 Triathlon Half Sierra Nevada

This triathlon is possibly the hardest of all, since it is the one that has the most meters of positive height in both the cycling sector and the running race. The DX2 Triathlon Sierra Nevada (Granada) will be the 23 July of 2016, the output will be located in the reservoir of Canales, next to the jetty of Guejar-Sierra. How much with 1900m of swimming, 82 of cycling and 21 of running on foot.

It is the only one that is allowed (partially, not in the entire route) the drafting, although it is true that due to the hardness of the cyclist profile the ability to go to the wheel is somewhat anecdotal.

Swimming is done in the Canales reservoir, it consists of a round of 1900m. Afterwards the triathletes face a "super T1", next to the jetty there is a mini box where the shoes fit ... and then you have to run 2k to the Guejar-Sierra sports center where the T1 is located, there the triathletes take their bikes and face the hard 80km of cycling with more than 3300 m of positive level

. The first port of the day is the Alto de Monachil and after the rapid descent the endless ascent to Sierra Nevada is faced, almost 40km of ascent to save a gap 1700m. Finally the triathletes face a 19km circuit of running, with a positive slope of 900m, the route is in an 50% asphalt and in a 50% gravel-earth.

Ecotrimad

The Ecotrimad is celebrated in the town of Buitrago de Lozona, with exit at the Puentes Viejas reservoir and the Buitrago plaza. The competition will be held on Saturday 14 of May.

Swimming consists of a round of 1900 in the Puentes Viejas reservoir. Next the cyclists face the hard cycling sector of 74km (composed of 2 turns of 37km). This stage of bicycle has an unevenness of 1200m approximately with continuous slopes and slides. It passes through the wall of 2 dams (El Villar and Puentes Viejas) and through an area of ​​the Sierra Pobre de Madrid.

The race on foot has an 50% asphalt and another 50% for hard dirt tracks. It consists of a link section and a ring that is given three times until the 21km total. The foot race runs around the dam of Riosequillo, highlighting dramatically by wall of the dam. After finishing the 3 lap, the triathletes enter the final 2,5km from the dam to the Castle. The final meters are made by the wall with beautiful views until you reach the Castle. The goal of the triathlon will be located in the Plaza de Buitrago, next to the medieval wall and outside the castle.

Club La Santa Ironman 70.3 Lanzarote

The Club la Santa is always the guarantee of an impeccable organization, not only for the Ironman of Lanzarote but also for many more events, one of them the Volcano Triathlon, the triathlon with the most disputed editions in Spain (31). The next 24 in September is a new edition of the La Santa Ironman 70.3 Lanzarote Club, the oldest IM 70.3 circuit test in Spain, which grants 30 slots for the GGEE, KPR points for the 70.3 world and the IM world, all from 2017.

Swimming takes place in the lagoon in front of Club La Santa, a round of 1900. Then the cyclists travel the 90km through some of the hardest areas of the "big brother, the IM Lanzarote", just after leaving the Club La Santa awaits the triathletes in the windy area of ​​Famara and Teguise. Afterwards, the climb to the viewpoints, the Mirador de Haría and the impressive Mirador del Rio will be taken. Then, after descending towards Tahiche and Oasis de Nazaret, another one will return to the Famara area. Finally the race on foot consists of 3 laps 7km with departure and arrival at the stadium of Club La Santa, leaving by the south reception of the establishment, ahead of the two Olympic-sized swimming pool.

The route continues along the road that leads to the fishing village, La Santa. The athletes enjoy the beautiful views of the sea under the intense sun of Lanzarote, while they will receive the unconditional support of the spectators through the streets of the town and at the turning point of the stadium of Club La Santa.

The competition is played on the 3 of July, starting at the Navacerrada reservoir and finishing at the Bola del Mundo.

The swim segment consists of 2000m in the Navacerrada Reservoir, the triathletes perform 2 turns to an 1000m circuit. Later the triathletes face the hard 85km cycling segment of more than 2000m of positive height. They ascend the port of La Morcuera, Cotos and the final climb to the World Ball with ramps of more than 20%.

In the esplanade of the Bar de la Bola more than 2000m altitude is located T2 and Meta. The 21km of running race consists of 20km of mountain trail, a round trip circuit through the tops of Valdemartín, Cabeza de Hierro Mayor and Menor until Asómateo Hoyos and return, in total more than 1000m of positive elevation.

San Lorenzo de El Escorial KM0 - Medium Distance

On Sunday 25 September will take place the first edition of "San Lorenzo de El Escorial KM0 - Average Distance", Try" sister "of the" Madrid KM0 - Long Distance ".

The test consists of 1900m in the swamp of Riosequillo, in Buitrago de Lozoya where the T1 will be mounted. Then the triathletes go through some of the most beautiful areas of the Sierra Madrileña, they will pedal 110km between Buitrago and San Lorenzo de El Escorial, ascending the ports of Canencia, Morcuera and Cotos (they will complete more than 3000m of positive slope) until they reach the T2 in the Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial.

The race on foot will take place around San Lorenzo de El Escorial, the route consists of 3 turns of 7 km, ending at the height of the main gate of the mythical Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial. In each round the triathletes will pass through the Lonja of the Monastery of El Escorial.

Titan Sierra de Cádiz

In 2016 it celebrates its twelfth edition. The competition will be held on October 8 in the town of Zahara de la Sierra (Cádiz) and consists of swimming 2km, 90 cycling and 20 running.

The 2000m swim takes place in a one-lap circuit in the Zahara de la Sierra reservoir. The cycling segment starts from the reservoir and immediately the road climbs towards the top of the Las Palomas pass at almost 1200m altitude, then descends towards Grazalema. The route continues through the towns of the White Villages route through Villaluenga, Benaocaz, Ubrique and El Bosque, where the second ascent of the day begins, the Boyar, another first category port whose summit is at 1107m, to finish it again climb the port of Las Palomas on its other side and technical descent towards Zahara.

The race on foot also begins in the swamp of Zahara towards Algodoales where the turning point is, later it is returned to the swamp where it is the second turning point, to finish with the mythical ascension to the plaza of the center of Zahara de the Sierra where the goal is located. The tough walking segment consists of more than 400m of positive elevation.
