Mario Mola is enough with a third place in Cozumel to be World Champion

Mario would have a third position in the Mexican city to take the title for the first time, after being proclaimed World Runner-up in 2014 and 2015.

The Canadian town of Edmonton witnessed the penultimate of the tests of the World Triathlon Series of this 2016. In her, Mario Mola, who competed again after achieving the Olympic Diploma in the Olympic Games in Rio, ended up in second position, second only to the British Jonathan Brownlee.

"Swimming was especially hard, and I did everything I could, and in the cycling sector it was hard work to reduce distances"commented at the end of the test."Once in the race on foot, I knew that Jonathan was very strong, and that only an unforeseen event could give me a chance to make up for lost time.

That did not happen and I can only congratulate you for the great test you completed. I had to fight with Murray, always very strong in the race, to be able to get the second position. Now it's time to think about Cozumel and to reach that last competition with the best possible physical conditions. It will be very hot there. Nothing to do with what we have had today".

This second position in Edmonton leaves the Spaniard with the lead and depends on himself to finish as world champion here in two weeks in Cozumel.

His main pursuer in the tables is now Jonathan Brownlee. Mario would have a third position in the Mexican city to take the title for the first time, after being proclaimed World Runner-up in 2014 and 2015.

This second place obtained in the Edmonton World Triathlon Series adds to the victories achieved this season in four other events of this circuit (Adu Dhabi, Gold Coast, Yokohama and Hamburg) in addition to his victory in the Mooloolaba World Cup.
